Peter didn't get her heart. The mom was saying that maybe when Peter was under, he could feel how much Jennie loved him (shown by how she would donate her heart to him if it was a match), and that motivated him/his heart to start working again
Also, it's lowkey realistic on the revenge part, if someone believes someone else (Phillip) ruined their life, obvi they're gonna want revenge but she knew she was gonna unalive herself so she asked Peter (her only friend) to do it in her diary as a way to vent her emotions (she never planned for Peter to read it)
Dumb that he actually tried to follow thro and I agree it's a lil overkill and mans is just trying to pass down his guilt/not cope with his emotions, but that was the premise of the plot in the 1st place hahaha
