I thought it was Ivan who made the mark and Alek is the one who could stabilize the effects or something (coz he's also a snake with stable "thing" i dunno the doctor mentioned it) and Ivan's "thing" is unstable that makes it hard for hen and him (on the first parts of the series) to have sex w/o affecting hen's health.
