No he already considered that and wanted to kill Jiwoo before they killed him. Then he got sort of considerate accepting Jiwoo as a student of the top 10 and realized how pathetic he was being and changed his priorities.
Honestly I kinda like this guy more than the other disciple that wants Jiwoo's gf
I was so confused why he let Jiwoo live, but it makes sense if he assumed that he would be killed once he killed Jiwoo. Then his changed conviction to continue his master's legacy instead of revenge means he has to survive, which means he can't kill Jiwoo. Finally got it lol
