No matter how different a historical manga or manhwa be it is reunited on the idea of hating corsets which i genuinely don't get it
Corsets were actually comfortable and important
Imagine a century later people just start hating bras
Yes they are uncomfortable but you have the comfortable ones too that you can buy and they are essential cuz imagine you are exercising your boobs will be all over the place and no one wants that
Sorry for the rant just been binging too many isekais

    ILoveDogs13 June 10, 2021 1:17 pm

It’s the sheer abuse of corsets by the dress makers that makes them a hated object. Very rarely we’re they made to be comfortable, especially in the Victorian era and Edwardian era. The point of the corsets were to get the smallest possible waist. I’ll tag a video later so you can watch. It’s frightening and interesting.

Yes, majority of the corsets made like that were made by men for women of nobility and houses of rich which says a lot however there are companies AS ALWAYS that did develop comfortable and non-painful corsets

    NadiTuSev June 10, 2021 1:22 pm

True , for me , I never wore corset, but I wore body shapers before they're comfortable, not only that but they keep my under garments in place, I feel like they are hugging my body which is nice, I don't know why people hate it , and they also never mention that men in the past used to wear corset as well ,it's more like a vest but it was used to shape the body as well ,the only difference is that women corset gets tighted more on the waist cause of beauty standards which I hate how they approach it but I don't really mind it much, as for bras if u go in a rush and start running without them it actually hurts alot it feels like being ripped from your body, we all have that uncomfortable bra that we hate to wear but didn't body types want different types of bras , u just need to find the good one for your body type

And as for the snatched waist look the corsets were actually accompanied by shoulder pads and a lot of different padding and a puffy skirt which gave the illusion that the waist is tinier than it actually was
And its also related to the women's movement since men couldn't see women in power or just confident in general thats why these stereotypes were made like in case of heels they were actually made for men but once women started wearing it the stigma around it being uncomfortable became very popular
And that's the same thing with witches also, they were just strong women who knew what they wanted but men couldn't accept that and marked them as bad and demonic

I guess it's because at this age it's easier to find corsets that are actually comfortable. From the horrible images of victorian corsets that I wish I could erase from my memory, they did not just "tighten more" around the waist but they absolutely deform the ribs and internal organs there.

Kinda reminds me of the "small feet" trend in China long long ago.

The focus of the fashionable silhouette of the mid- and late 19th century was an hourglass figure with a tiny waist. It is thought that in the 1840s and 1850s that tightlacing first became popular, though historical documents from the time tell us that padding was increased at the bust and hips to give the illusion of a narrower waist.
Literally copied this from wikipedia no extensive research nothing just plain old wikipedia
And wikipedia itself have debunked a lot of misconception about corsets like if you have watched any of these videos titled corsets of death or something you'll always see this picture of ma metal caged kinda corsets that as they say the women used to wear but its actually a medical brace or well sometimes were used in fetish plays

I have read some about the small feet before , but its different from the corset , the bigger feet size helps you balance and be able to walk , as for the corset , it may be tight for the waist but on the other side it's used to fix your posture as for some people who have curved spine it helps to straighten it or keep it straight in general, especially nowadays we need it more than the past , people always at their phone or on desk, playing games , lazing in bed etc. So our backs is always tilted to the front which causes back pain and future , I know wearing corset very tight isn't good but about corset in history like anything else exist isn't all true , there's always alternation in history to try and change people mindset to their liking everything in general, so we cant always trust it , but if we gonna anything about destroying the organs or the rib cage , it's actually is possible considering the fact that we as a women are able to get pregnant and have baby inside us , the baby push all the organs in the corner which is worse than how much the corset may do , especially the fact that the baby is pushing from the inside and not from the outside, so we as women are able to handle this kind of pressure cause it's more comfortable than the pressure that a baby with also increase on the weight that you hold . But we can't also ignore the fact that the feet of waist or anything else if you do too much or too less of it it may harm your body , some may have worn it too tight but it's not all the cause of the Victorian corset style (sorry it's too long)

Did you see the video that I linked? Cause I’ve seen them one that you linked and I don’t know she mostly bases a lot of the things on the video on her own opinion and use of corsets. The video that I linked has actually newspaper clipping of death due to corsets and even a liver that has been preserved and damaged by the wear of corsets.

She is a fashion historian and a lot of stuff said in the video that you linked have been debunked you can just read the comments under the video and the newspaper clipping and the photos shown didn't actually match the timeline that they were talking about
And the newspaper talked about what the doctors thought during that time which was during the 19th century which is kinda considered one of the weirdest century in terms of medical knowledge for instance doctors thought that the uterus hangs inside a woman's body with string like things and can actually fall out if the women moved in the wrong way and they practically had no idea about how period occurs and so you really cant trust the medical history from that time as well as the point that all of this was stated by men to kinda downgrade the women movements is also very prevalent
