I think it's more about how it started for him. He kinda comes off as manipulative, it feels like him starting to like her, started off as 'how can we use each other', it feels somehow wrong. At least that's how I feel about it. Yes, he may have feelings for her now, which are honest, but the way this started out kinda manipulative, makes you wonder if he has more of that behavior in store, if they really start dating. :/
