Darkness Hound
Really stupid concept. The male lead deserted the army, and the army sent a top rated assassin to kill him, but the assassin is weak to cat noises, so when the target goes "Meow," he falls down and is raped by the target. Then they have lots of sex and end up falling for each other, blah blah. During this whole thing, he still claims he's going to kill him. Yeah right, if you were actually a competent assassin, you could have killed him easily. Seriously, it's neither funny nor executed well. This is just trash yaoi manga. Also, the art is bleh, and they make really disgusting looking faces in the smut scenes. Skip.
Color Recipe
Although I like this mangaka's other works, I didn't like this one. Maybe it's because it dragged on too much, and I just came to hate the characters. There's so much drama in one hair salon, and you wonder how dense the owner can be to not notice all this crap happening under his roof. So the grouchy hairstylist is being stalked by the handsome princely one, who turns out to be a sociopath, because he wants the grouchy one to come join him in his own hair salon. He does all sorts of twisted, sick things to him to make him crumble, and when he almost finally breaks him, he realizes that's not what he really wanted. But he still doesn't let him go. Even when he's opened his own salon, he's manipulating the other guy the whole time using passive aggressive tactics. I feel like if it were shorter, I would be somewhat more accepting of the plot, but because of how long and draggy it got, it became boring and less believable. The execution really wasn't there for me. Also, the characters all look very similar, so that didn't help. Seriously, there's three people in the salon staff that look about the same, including the stalker one, so I had trouble distinguishing people. There was so much hair styling jargon, but it made me believe that the mangaka has no idea how hair stylists actually work, because I just don't see it being such a complicated profession as it is portrayed here. It's just cutting and dyeing hair, but they make it seem like hardcore rocket science or something, like what the hell? I would avoid this. There's supposed to be a drama CD for this manga, and I think that might be better than reading it since at least you can enjoy the seiyuu's voice acting.
Pearl Boy
Weird premise of having the purple haired boy make pearls whenever he ejaculates. Both he and the male lead are broke, so I guess that will come into play? The art is so-so, but the characters are drawn in a really unappealing manner. Plot and characters haven't been properly introduced in a well-thought out way. So far, not impressed.
Nightmare Building
This webtoon is utter trash. I can't even tag this as smut because the smut is crap. It's censored by complete obscuration, so honestly, this webtoon has no reason for existing. Why draw a BL if you're not going to either focus on the smut or on the romance? Those are the two main reasons to read BL, aren't they? Either people want to read a porn without plot or a plot without porn, or some balance of those two. This one has no plot and terrible porn, it's so softcore, there's no point of drawing it out. I wouldn't have a problem with this if the romance or plot was good, but even that is non-existent, so I'm just mad in general. I'm not even sure about the translation, since it says the white haired guy is a nightmare, then a monk, then a succubus, I don't even know what he's supposed to be at this point. Then the translation goes from alright to awful in the latest chapters. This webtoon is basically just asking to be let go or to end its misery at this point. There's nothing happening between each chapter. The art is at least tolerable, but it's nowhere good enough to save it from itself. Hopefully, the author will learn from this experience and do a better job in their next work. Maybe this is just a drawing exercise, because if this was supposed to be a serious thing, it really failed.
The third perspective
Not too certain about this BL webtoon. It presents itself as dark and serious, but the pacing is too slow. Not much happens between each chapter, feels like filler so far. There isn't a lot of real depth, and people do things for uncertain reasons. The male lead is seeing a psychiatrist for his mental health issues, but he's also in love with him too. The psychiatrist is clearly abusing his doctor-patient rights here by having a physical relationship here, and manipulating him emotionally. Not sure what his end goal is. He also has another male lover on the side who might also be his patient. I have no idea what kind of injectable drugs a psychiatrist might need to use for this guy (since it doesn't seem like he has schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, which are the main injectables for psychiatry), like I feel like this author doesn't know how psychiatry works in real life and is just using it as a prop. You most certainly don't need some random non-medically trained person to hold someone down during an injection, either. Sigh. Well, it's not as bad as other BL out there so far, we'll see what happens. Art is so-so. Update: It ended. Hooray. Done with this trash. The last part of the story was rushed and made zero sense.
A Fisherman's Dream
This is one of the weirdest webtoons I've seen so far. There's no plot, but there's a bunch of somewhat interesting random lore and stuff which seems so out of place, because at its core, this is a cross between A Little Mermaid and BL. The art is awful. It might be intentional though, since the artist is drawing inspiration from Japanese woodcarvings, but it's incredibly unappealing to look at. The strange ideas that haven't been fully executed are unique. I don't like the relationship between the fisherman and the merman, not sure if it will get better, but I don't have high hopes for it. Update: Latest chapter turned into a weird history lecture for no reason. I understand the author is trying to educate readers, but it's so out of place with the previous chapters that it just doesn't belong here. Maybe if the two characters had started off getting to know each other before the smut, it would have worked. And the rape was just brushed off so casually. Priorities!
Nanidameshi
Exotic Love
Nonsensical BL about the filming/acting industry on the surface, but it's really just a prop to have the two male characters meet and have sex. Besides the smut, there's drugs and violence. It's basically a webtoon filled with all kinds of awful things since they go so well together in a nonfunctional society. Everyone is an asshole. Art is ok, but everyone looks about the same.
Sura's Lover
A bunch of doctors-in-training are living in a remote mountain village, and one of them finds a heavily injured man, whom he takes care of and nurses back to health. It sounds nice when I wrote it like that, but there's no plot and everything escalated super quickly. They fall in love (lust) and have sex nightly after they confess to each other in the third chapter. It's not really smut though since there's only one sex scene. I have no clue why everyone is in love with the frail and meek male lead, because he's ugly and useless. Calling him beautiful multiple times isn't going to change my mind. Also, no one acts like a doctor, including him, who's far too idealistic to survive as a practicing doctor, even in ancient times. The art style is not my liking, it uses very bold lines and a solid color palette that just doesn't work. Update: There's a lot more smut and gore now, which makes it really strange. The male lead is a complete and utter idiot for not knowing that his lover is a murderous psychopath who wears human faces as masks...what kind of doctor is he again? Like you'd be able to tell from the smell alone, also he touched it and couldn't tell it was real flesh...I don't know why this webtoon even exists.
