Ah, youth bursting out... Bittersweet story of two students during the Meiji era, if it had been modern times there would have been a hope that they'd find each other or find a way to reconnect, but back then... that was pretty much final.

Like someone said "the misfortunes of being a [not-bulked-up] boy [in the swimming team]". I feel bad for him, I hope something makes his day better later on :P

Kind of tragic story of how "the old man in red giving gifts one night a year" came to be. I really hope the last panels were meant as hints that they ended up staying together and that it wasn't just a sad ending :/

Boy patiently sits on a bench while waiting for his sister to come, meanwhile two guys are very interested in what to do with said child.
