Ch 26 as of 03/04/23 - nice art - ML is Han Sungyoon. - 7yrs ago ML’s parents died in the first dungeon break. - White Lotus Hunter Training Centre - Awakened humans train to be hunters - ML’s stats haven’t increased despite 7yrs of training. - He is called a failure and an embarrassment, then thrown out of the centre by Hwang Manho the director. - Tower of Trials: ML is selected for his iron will. - He chooses the hardest level of difficulty. - He uses his years of hunter training and studies to help him get through each trial. - 1st floor trial: Survival - With a sword, ML faces a sand golem in a desert. - ML pierced the golem’s core with the sword to defeat it. - He’s rewarded with points and the Fast Recovery skill. - ML unlocks Necromancy as his unique trait. - He can store and use spirits of the dead. - He can also permanently increase his stats from the spirits he absorbs. ML was a member until he entered the Abyss. - Aine Lawrence, Dragon Huang’s daughter. - She’s a B-rank hunter and A-rank manager. - Martial arts became unpopular after ML entered the Abyss. - ML will raise his profile and reputation by participating in hunter sports. Ch 60 as of 01/02/23 - on Webtoon (Ch 44 missing. It’s a duplicate of Ch 43) (Final is Ch 60) … but story feels incomplete. - At a video game company, a notification appears like a game window in front of everyone. The world will end in 42 days. - To stop this disaster, find and help the Saviour. - A series of questions are asked to evaluate the individual. - Park JeongWoo, Assistant Manager - He’s a Saviour (1 of many, ranked in order) - He can see the number of essences one has. - Jo SeonWoong, Chief - He’s a Predator (ie. he can help or steal the Saviour position). The title “Predator” can be seen above his head by all. - Essence: this was awarded to everyone depending on their answers. Essence acts as a weapon and a shield. - Essence is dropped when a person dies. Someone else may absorb this essence. Creatures not from Earth are after these essences. - Essence now determines strength and authority in this world. - For efficiency, the limited amount of essence was distributed among various species determined as the strongest on Earth (ie not just humans). Those with high amounts of essence can communicate with different species. - Jo SeonWoong, Park JeongWoo, and his team member JaeHyeong try to get to Jo’s car by the stairs as the lifts aren’t working. - In the car park, they find numerous essences dropped. - As they collect essences, JaeHyeong is devoured by something monstrous. They realise a monster dropped essences as bait to hunt them. Jo goes to get his car while the monster focuses on Park. - Park received points towards his aptitude score and was assigned an evaluation administrator who communicates with Park inside his head. Park asks for help and advice on how to defeat the monster, which he learns is called the Janitor. - The built-in feature of using essence is the survival instinct in the face of death that activates the essence operation mode. After essence is activated for the first time, it can be used at anytime. - Jo hits the Janitor with his car. Park has worked out how to use essence for defence and now uses it for offense with a fountain pen. He kills the Janitor and it releases more essences. - Earth Saviour Selection process: - Park JeongWoo is currently ranked 2nd in South Korea. - The rankings are live and can change. - The top 5 ranked can communicate with eachother through the system via the chat room. The top 5 ranked have termination authority to close gates that allow monsters through from other worlds / dimensions. - Jo SeonWoong drives Park JeongWoo to his neighbourhood. As they walk to Park’s place, they’re attacked by a gang of youths. - Park kills most of them with his essence. Later Park and Jo are surrounded by Vigilante Committee members who let them go after Park says they escaped from a monster. - Yang Junho, Chief of the Vigilante Committee’s Team 2. - Park Min-Gu, Park JeongWoo’s father. He’s a Predator. - Park JeongWoo’s mother allegedly died when she was hit by a drunk driver. Min-Gu owed money to loan sharks. - He’s killed people at the local supermarket to get food supplies. He kills the Vigilante Committee members that knock on the door but lets one escape to spread the word not to return there. - Park gathers weapons with Jo and leaves after Park and his father decide to go their separate ways. In the street they see many cats and the lead cat says to follow them. They come across a gate. - As Janitor monsters emerge, the cats attack them. The lead cat tells Park to remember his responsibility as a Saviour (to save the planet). The lead cat and the other cats sacrifice themselves so Park can absorb their essences after killing the monsters. - To close the gate, Park needs over 10k essences. - Park decides to murder people to collect essences. Jo is horrified but he has no choice other than to stick with Park to survive. - Park kills members from the Vigilante Committee and a group of people led by another Saviour with 300+ essences. - Park is granted the use of Pathfinder which has 2 tracking modes: Gate tracking mode or Essence tracking mode. - Park and Jo head towards the Supreme Court after lions were reported there. Park kills another Saviour with almost 2k essences. - Inside the Supreme Court, Park pretends to be police to lure out survivors that’ll attract the lions. He kills the lionesses then the lead lion who was a Predator with 1k+ essences. - The administrator says Park may choose how to manifest his essence after the tutorial is completed. The tutorial is over when he reaches 10k essences. - Park wants to find a doctor to join his team. - Park goes to Gangnam Station as Pathfinder indicated a high amount of essences there. He is met by some men from the DS Group. They have a contract with a Saviour that has 3k+ essences to take out their competition. Park kills them all. - Park now has 10k+ essences and an alert notifies everybody that the 1st person has passed the tutorial. Park is also ranked 1st out of the Saviours in South Korea. - Park may now use all functions of essence: ie manifest, eject and strengthen. He has met the minimum requirement to close gates, so he’s granted use of the “Ark.” Park may choose 10 animals to board his Ark. Those chosen will be untraceable by the monsters. - He can choose no one to board the Ark. He can also unboard any of those chosen. Park realises the Ark passengers are the minimum requirement for the Earth to recover itself. - Park JeongWoo wants to rest and deems the DS Group office building nearby to be the safest once he secures it. - Park kills all of the security guards. Park and Jo go to the office of the DS Group President. Inside is a rest room which they use to clean up and take turns sleeping. - Jo receives an SMS alert from the government, claiming they know an effective way to block gates. The military use weapons to stop the Janitor monsters that emerge. A new type of monster called Farmers appear and attack the soldiers. - Leading special benefit: a limited authority given to the no.1 Saviour of each region. ML chooses to “randomly sacrifice 1 person from special benefit selectors.” He selects the special benefit of All Sight: find a being who suits your set conditions twice. - Kim Yongheon, DS Group business strategy division head. - He agrees to leave DS and be Park’s helicopter pilot. - Choi Donghoon, a urologist. - Yang Hyoshin, a nurse. - Park and his group head to the gate to close it. The area around it has been taken over by plant-like monsters called Resonators. They encounter a Farmer monster near the gate. Park defeats the Farmer and a swarm of Janitors devour the Farmer’s body. Park releases the 10k+ essences and closes the gate. Everyone is notified that the first gate has been closed. No new gates will open in this area. - Jo, Kim Yongheon, and Choi Donghoon agree to stay with Park. They go to a gate near an army base. Over 20k essences are needed to close the gate. Park kills the soldiers to collect their essences.
