She said the plot after she gained her memories so... When he does meet the original heroine, his heart starts beating and he experiences the usual "symptoms of falling in love". To his credit, he does rush his fiancée out of there (they were both in disguise in chapter 5.2) but it seems like this is one of those mangas where the universe is pushing for the original plot.
