Houkago no Etude

Ongoing | HIRUNE Cyan | 2020 released

VOLUME 4 NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW OMG I NEED IT RNRRNRNRNR this is so much better than healing paradox icl I was hesitant o read this all this time I'm so glad I gave the author's other work a chance this story delves so much more into their emotions and the whole ballet background information is so fun to read, healing paradox focuses more on the relationship itself but not the context surrounding them as much. Wow I love this story, it's super cute and has good pacing, I got a plentiful introduction to each and every side character and I really like the friends they had back in japan, everything has a plentiful explanation/lead up and the romance is well done too. Slight rocky start with not much explanation as to why ichi rocked up minobe's world but they gave plentiful explanation continuously later throughout the story. Everything is so well fleshed out in here and I just love their relationship dynamic and how they're both hard workers and not taking their talent for granted. I wish I had their work ethic wow. I have to say I was shocked how much smut was in this, I expected it to be more like shounen ai but ig there's a reason why this is tagged as yaoi lol. I didn't expect to like the ballet setting so much + rly enjoyed all the little bits after each chapter explaining sth abt ballet, very technical but not too hard to understand bc evths explained! office romance should follow in this story's steps cause smt their jargon is hard to follow

Off Track

Ongoing | Musosik, Rho | 2023 released

Snowmtl for 42 This is like so fucking good idky I really like how this plot doesn't follow the usual fnatasy romance of him just giving in and telling him evth, love how Gunma's this realistic dude who makes bad choices and is a bit dumb, I love Teo's character as well everything he says and does is lowkey fair (apart from rape he could of gone abt it in a mill diff ways but that) but he's generally a multi dimensional character which I like. Not used to the strange dynamic between J and gunma bc im used to the background duo being comedic relief but I like where it's going and love how even a side character is quite multi dimensional. Love crystal's character too, crazy girl. Only criticism is how as soon as crystal teases, J immediately tells her Gunma's whole backstory like I feel like that's so dramatic/unnecessary but alr. I alos LOVE how the snaky Dan is being used to aid the plot, he's not just this random asshole that usually only aids in the romance but this time he's a smart guy who's aiding the actual plot. Very interesting take on spy x guy being spied trope, I look forward to seeing how they write his brother's potential return. Glad I never bothered to read spoilers bc I thought the english officials would never come out. edit: I get way too easily satisfied whenever I read sth in one go holy shit, is it just me or is the dialogue getting cornier in this and idk the whole buildup to his brother's return feels sudden to me or I lack clarity over the situation right now (ch 49) 5-> 4 stars

Park Hanhoo's Manager

Complete | KIM TAC | 2000 released

NO FAULTS NO FAULTS HONESTLY I've never loved a backstory more, I initially got a bit miffed whenever they randomly threw in chansol's backstory but tbh it makes sense because it's such a huge part of the story and how he ended up as how he is now. Such a loving and caring MC, dare I say Chansol is my fave ever MC yet. I also tend not to like the pyscho lover too much but Yooem was just so calculative with everything and how he worded the way that they're actually both selfish, but they awlays put each other first in the end like omg my heart, may this type of love harass me I dedass felt robbed that we couldn't see the lead up to their first time doing it I don't even wanna see smut in this story, it'd lowkey ruin it because it's not gonna fit, but it'd have been cute to see Chansol being really shy and then there's the naughty office scenario the author teases us with but never showed.... how mean. Anyways I overall really liked how well thought out the story is, you can really tell the author put a lot of thought into it and I can't believe it's like last out of all her stories, I've not read her others but they can't possibly be that much better. The two in this are like two peas in a pod, selfish love that is still based off of the other ugh how cute, I also LOVED the chibi style in this and all the side characters coz they're all lwk cute and supportive in their own ways. dedass this typa story with these types of characters isn't my usual fave, but the loving and caring Chansol won my heart plus this story has good depth, and good build up. Only criticism I have is that I would have thought Chansol would have a bigger reaction/dilemna over realising Yooem hid how he was Hanhoo this hole time but oh well, they delved so much into his backstory it can make up for that. 'My tomorrow is you' or wtv they say will stick with me

Aesthetics of Unpleasantness

Complete | Seuseu | 2022 released

THIS COULD CHANGE TO 5 STARS because I'm surprised the author was able to pinpoint a fault with her story, and it definitely is bc the story is hard to follow, though it's because she's tried to written a very mature storyline with very well thought out arcs so it's no surprise she has tried to explain everything to her best attempt, glad she didn't go down the monologue pathway bc I hate those, they're so uncalled for and I'd prefer to be left in the unknown for a bit longer as long as evth clears up by the end because it's still a thrill to read along the way. I really like Brett as a character he's quite a unique take on a rich kid cos he's arrogant but got a reasonable character to him because he's not childish and deals with shit reasonably. Him going through all that sexual assault and then coming out with such a brave face was heart-breaking bc the author shows moments where he pauses and goes tense and that's like honestly for me a new way of portraying a victim bc usually bls just portray really big emotions afterwards of like being upset or angry, so brett being like almost 'chill' is unnerving, maybe not the right word but somewhat chilling but you still feel empathy (u alw feel empathy towards victims but ykwim) I'm kinda sad this is over after the next season, I hope it ends with side stories of them having nice dates , I was supposed to hold out till the release of s3 so I could make sure to remember evth when this updated but nvm I got too excited. Oh I also really like how this story actually mentions how bonds don't equal romantic attraction, makes their relationship feel more genuine because they actually grew to where they are right now. I definitely think this has poor rating bc lots of people were thrown off by the rough sex at the start, I bet loads of ratings were left before they reached the chapter that explains how Brett actually encouraged it to happen

Call

Complete | ASADA Nemui | 2019 released

I wanted to get a side story of them going about life together :(((( this was such an emotional read with srsly good pacing and good dialogue and rly interesting characters, I was scared haruhiko would go down the lane of pretending to ignore akiyama but he didn't and even attempted to chase him. The little crashout he has earlier about only using him for money and feeling frustrated I feel like was the moment you saw him being confused abt his feelings and I feel like this was a really nice portrayal of internalised homophobia and coming to terms with his own feelings. I also really appreciate how he realises he went wrong with asking him to stay alive for him because that's just adding pressure to him and not a healthy approach to a relationship. They're so cute and I can actually see them lasting long because of how haruhiko became mature as the story went on. I lowkey have no criticism for this story and I'm so glad I found a new good author

Harukaze no Etranger

Ongoing | KII Kanna | 2000 released

I absolutely love the fuck out of these two, Mio is so sweet and cute and then Shun's also this little lazy 32 yr old who just needs time to get his head around life. I love how lively the two are with each other and how they're comfortable with crashing out in front of each other. Their relationship seems so sweet because of how comfortable they are with each other and you can tell though their blunt and funny diaologue. I wish I find a lover who I'll be this comfortable with in the future my favourite panels are of the two going out on the island together and they're both just in PJs and laughing ugh how cute side note: I did not realise Shun approached Mio while he was still in high school as someone 7 years older baby face hit them both srsly hard huh edit: wow I have no backbone bc I'm writing this after I saw a tiktok, but it's still true because when I read this I also felt really uncomfortable with how Mio went about demanding sex from Shun and forced himself onto him, it's definitely overlooked in this story

Usagi no Mori

Ongoing | Enjo | 2018 released

I love their dynamic so much it's like really chill :) I also really like how the story has gone about his trauma with his mum. Idk how to put it but the really subtle feelings towards the situation makes it feel really realistic because for Tamaki she's still his mum and bc she's not done anth sexual to him I feel like he might be in his mind somewhat excusing his mum and just dealing with it? Idk how to explain but I think there'd be a big difference in how his emotions would have played out if his mum physically does sth to him, and idk if it's wrong to say this but I almost applaud? the author for choosing this as the story because it really adds to the whole coming of age/chill vibes of this story because don't get me wrong this is still clearly psychological, but because this is a narrative written from teen boys I almost think it's realistic how they have very toned down reactions to such a traumatising situation. I also feel like in coming-of-age stories you never see them wanting to seek out from help from adults, but for shunta to have suggested it almost shows and adds again to the whole teenage boys getting through life vibe of this story. Hmmm I don't rly like how I've gone about writing my view on this story but wtv I really liked the chill vibes with the occasional comedy and their personalities. This also has like srsly good pacing despite all the timeskips we get. OH and I love the simplicity in their facial expressions, if anything it makes them more funny at times. I'm sad this is on hiatus :(

Eunsuk & Jung-gu

Complete | john | 2000 released

THIS IS GENUINELY MY NEW FAVE READ OF ALL TIME GENUINELY WTAF the way this author writes character dialogue is actually crazy simple yet effective, she always manages to capture that nuanced vibe in all her characters through them. I love how we see Jung-gu and Eunsuk really gravitate towards each other not just through sex but through daily interactions, I think the way the author writes her stories in chunks is really effective for her stories and really carries through that slice of life yet romance vibe so it's still comedic despite occasional deep moments where we see them contemplate their futures together. I LOVE how Eunsuk is a hopeless romantic for Jung-gu yet he still gets portrayed with moments where he feels uncertain for their future like thats so REALISTIC and I just love it, life isn't gonna always play out nice for u and sometimes you just can't help worrying. I love the carer x cared for dynamic between the two and the patience Eunsuk has for Jung-gu. I also obviously can;t forget to comment on how the sex in this is clearly so their scenes aren't even that long, they're just frequent which somehow honestly works better for this story bc it definitely effectively shows to us how sex is a vital part of their relationship bc they're both freaks LMAO but then als we don't end up focused on their smut scenes and the story still progresses nicely. ALSO I love father figure characters in this and I adored how Hung-gu wasn't chucked aside by the vice chairman even when his real son appeared in his life, I have to say it's a shame we didn't see that threesome between the main two and Inkyoo... but honestly I respect it more the author chose to not have it, demonstrates how Jung-gu and Eunsuk have really developed in their relationship to their point they only need each other to satisfy their needs. (maybe a side story would have been nice bc that's what I thought happen lol) OVERALL, fuckkkk these two were sosoosososos frigging cute omg the way they're just reliant on each other's presence is absolutely so sweet to see and really wish this was longer somehow. I just love how refreshing this dynamic is, it's not unique I guess but the way their both so open with each other is refreshign and UGHHH the right mix of kinkiness with romance and drama and slice of life like wtaf no other story has this same balance, love this author tho this story is clearly a more light-hearted vibe versus their newer works edit: dk why I haven't used this word yet BUT they're also a healthy couple too because of how open they are to each other requests and feelings, and they communicate very effectively, it's all to do with their interdependence which rly is the sweetest portrayal of it that I've seen for a while
