At first, the Duke treated her well but one day he strangled her and was surprised that even though she has golden eyes, she didn't avoid him. Starting that point, he tested her to see if she has powers or not. She didn't know about the power back then (not understanding the mist she saw around people) so she just sucked it up and said nothing. Until at some point, he thought she was useless and then the other children started to bully her. NB : The Duke Hugo isn't her real father, he killed him, it was his older twin brother Linus (ref. ch19-20). Her mother was Stacey (also got killed) and they were the ones who chose her name. He killed him because he eloped with Stacey and he obviously wasn't allowed to do that, so he had to pay with his life. It was also bc since Elena had the perfect eyes, he wanted her for himself so the parents had to go. Oh and the mother of the other children died after giving birth to the 6th child. In the novel, Sirius managed to make anyone bow to him or kill them. Even killing 10 of his fiancées because it wasn't a romance novel but a fantasy one with a revenge plot. Bro was too cruel for that lmao. Elena planned to stay away from him but of course, that's not what happened. NB : Elena didn't read this novel in her past life but after she died ! She was like in an in-between dark place, floating with just this book, and before she could finish it, she got reincarnated. And there was no 7th child in the novel so Elena didn't existed.
