Here And There And Us (And Then And After)
Read "Here and There and Us" first! Hoo my god. I've waited for this one for a looong time. I truly think that the prequel ended in a perfect place, but this one provided a welcome insight of what transpired between our boys before they got together, and how they navigate the new dynamic of their relationship. I love, love their conversations, the natural progression of friends becoming lovers and the general cozy vibe of the manga. It's such a slow and comforting read, definitely still a favorite for me.
JOY
NOOOO THIS IS SO FUCKING GOOD ARE YOU KIDDING MEEEEEEE like id be happy if i died right here where i just finished reading this, like FUCK this is good. Everything is so fluid! So laid back! But it's also deep and heartwarming AND heartwrenching! I really love the dynamic of the MCs, the way the author establish and develop so much of the story within 8 short chapters is masterful, the art is great, and i'm both so fucking happy and sad (cuz i've read it!! Now what do i do?!!) to finally find a new favorite manga of mine.
Kyuuketsuki to Yukai na Nakama-tachi
CW: GRAPHIC & EXPLICIT ANIMAL ABUSE IN CH 8, multiple near death experiences, serious injuries, vampire, murder, blood drinking, embalming, corpses Oh maan this is wonderful, i can't put it down! Just like the title says, it's about a (super adorable) vampire and his pleasant companions, one of which is a cranky embalmer. From what i've read so far the characters really shine, the plot is intriguing, the writing is strong, and the art beautiful. I really hope it stays that way till the end because this might be a new favorite series of mine. PS. Please take that CW seriously because it IS graphic and explicit. I was really taken aback when i read the chapter and had to take some time to calm myself.
40 x 40 Chikuwa Kaigi
I realized i never wrote a serious review for this so i just gave it a reread and wow this manga?????????is so light and silly and sad and heartbreaking and heartwarming and wholesome???????? It's well written with great characters and i love it so much. I love it so fucking much i never want it to end. I wish there were a hundred more chapters. I wanna see them grow even older together. I wanna see them do and argue about stupid shit even as they're balding and greying. I wanna see them happy for many, many years in exchange of the ones they spent being heartbroken over each other. I just. Love them so much, man it hurts.
Seishun no Yamai wa
Why, and i mean WHY, does this manga has such a low rating??? This manga is another example of why i love reading Nishida Higashi's mangas -- the way she writes romance between men is unpararelled. Especially the first story (since the second one is a spinoff of a manga that i didn't read), the characters are so flawed, but they felt SO human for that. The longing, the heartache, the mistakes and regrets between the two MCs felt so fucking real all the more because of how their characters were written. And don't get me started on the internal monologues -- they're so fucking excellent. It baffles me again and again to see people not liking Nishida's stories as much as i do.
The Return of the Crazy Demon
Died of laughter like a hundred times while reading this. Also: GREAT characters, beautiful art, good writing (and comedy, holy shit), crazy interesting plot. Definitely one of my fave read.
The World’S Best Engineer
Reading this makes me realize once again that i'm absolutely suckers for men who are overpowered, unhinged, and unintentionally hilarious and kind.
