How to End an Unrequited Love

Complete | Pai | 2000 released

A bit different compared to what I normally read, but this one of a kind story really grabbed my attention from the very beginning until the very end. What I can appreciate the most about this series is how no character beats around the bush, they know exactly what they want, and when they have an issue or something they want to address, they communicate that- if not in the same chapter, then the very next. It was always so frustrating for me reading yuris in the past where so much of the conflicts came from someone not being honest with the person in question so they end up getting hurt! I get it prolongs the story, but if the story itself isn't that good of a read because it relies on cliché tropes like so many other yuris, then outplayed conflicts of interest just makes it so much harder to read through when the readers already know what to expect for the solution. I love the way this story introduced Boksil, a hopeless romantic who had no luck at dating, but didn't let that deter her. If I'd have never looked at the cover photo for the manhua, I would have never guessed that Boksil and DoYoon wouldn't have ended up together. Brave decision to write a story around falling in love with one character just to end up with the characters best friend. I loved Seim's character, but DoYoon was an easy favorite for me. If anyone in this story deserved a happy ending, it was her, and I'm glad she didn't let her first love ruin her perspective on relationships, I had the most worry for her because of that and, although I saw it coming, I knew she and JiYoo would end up together- which I'm also very thrilled for. All in all, the story was amazing, funny, and original, the characters have so much depth and development, and there is so much individuality put into each character introduced, and the artwork is really pretty. Cute, quick, and easy read, this won't be a yuri anyone would regret reading.

Sex Exercise

Complete | Choe namsae, shuroop | 2019 released

Not a fan of all the sex related content in every chapter, but maaaaan, I kinda really enjoyed this. Even speeding through the sex scene parts, I still had to scroll back up to take notice at how the scenes were so beautifully colored. Came for the art, stayed for the comedy and storytelling. Although this isn't what I traditionally read as far as genre goes, I still give this a 10 out of 10! Woongs character design from the very beginning is what made me pick up this manhua, I'm a big fan of the cute and fluffy type of character, his personality fit so well given the kind of content this story showed. I'm not as happy with how Yunas story ended however, I didn't care for the sudden "she hasn't spoken to me since that day, I think she blocked me" No, I'm sorry, that was such lazy writing! I really needed that closure! I know Yuna was at fault from the beginning by telling her mom they were dating without disclosing it to Woong, (and yes, most of her obsession came from idolization) but Woong didn't do her any favors either by just looking to her for sex while also dangling her along when he wasn't even sure how he felt about her. Yuna deserved some sort of closure episode with Woong at the very least. It was a given that he and Soohyun would end up together though, it just felt so lazy how they managed to get together. I wish we could have seen more from Woong and Soohyun, all of that buildup for a chapter or two felt a little lackluster, but enjoyable nonetheless. If there is ever a second story or side story, I'd love to also see more from Hani and Miso, I loved Miso so much and would have loved to see so much more of him.

Sweet Little Devil

Ongoing | Nanzaki iku | 2019 released

It's been at least 10 years since the last time I've read something by this author, and going back and rereading Sweet Little Devil now gave me so much nostalgia! Now that I comprehend more of this story, it really is so much more than smut. These characters are so well thought out and deeply rooted to one another to the last detail. After all these years, I was hoping to get another series of Ristuko and Sayo in their adult life with the possibility of going overseas to get married, but I guess that will just be something I think of when I fall asleep now lol. I forgot how much I enjoyed reading this series, how those soft spoken pillow talk scenes really made my heart skip. Despite this being an old manga, it's a fantastic read, I'm glad I was able to stumble across it again.

Sadistic Beauty: Side Story

Complete | Yunhee Woo | 2000 released

I can't believe I never left a review on this, I'm glad I finally came back to reread it because this is likely one of the best side stories I've seen. Not too many stories really wrap up side characters by giving them their own story, and most of them are never as good as this one. When I realized this story was about Gyerin, I nearly cried! Out of all the characters, she was my favorite and the one most deserving of love in this series. I was so nervous thinking she might end up with Duna so the excitement I felt knowing her ending would be wrapped up in this side story sent me over the moon! Gyerin was honestly the only character in the story who had any real development and personality. Sure, she was clingy, but not nearly as insufferable as the male lead. After reading the main story and both side stories (yeesh on that yaoi side story) Gyerin and Juyeons was really the only relationship I could 100% stand behind that made the most sense to me. I'm so happy she got her good ending, I love how they wrapped up her tale because at the end of the day, she really was the only character (who got hurt) worth caring about.

Caught Feelings for My Sex Friend

Ongoing | Namaniku | 2022 released

Really cute but dangerous concept for a story, let alone a one-shot. That "we both have feelings for each other but neither of us will make the first move to avoid getting hurt" trope is EXTREMELY outplayed in yuris to the point where it's hard to make a good story because the readers always know that to expect, but I have to admit, I really liked how it was tackled in this story. I'm positive it's just because this is a one-shot story, but the fact that these two characters didn't end up hurting one another by dancing around their feelings and not unintentionally doing or saying something that the other person got hurt by really struck me. Makes for a slightly less interesting story, but nonetheless it wasn't a bad read. The art was very cute, would love to see more from this author in the future.

Cheerful Amnesia

Ongoing | Oku Tamamushi | 2000 released

Too cute for words! This is the kind of yuri I eat up! Everything was done so perfectly! From the story to the art, down to the characters and their traits, this was definitely a 10 out of 10 for me! I try to leave at least one honest critique for every thing I read, but for the life of me, I can't think of a single thing that I think could have been done better with this manga. I may be hyping this up more than I should, but it's been such a long time since I've read such a wholesome, sweet, and funny yuri with such great characters, especially one that can be this popular and not have to rely on sex scenes or fan service. Great work, great writing, fantastic read, this will be one that'll be on my reread list for sure.

Her ShimCheong

Complete | Seri, Bi-wan | 2000 released

I had forgotten all about this yuri, and very sad I did for a moment, but was delighted at the prospect of enjoying it again from the beginning. Absolutely phenomenal story with such depth in characters, easily a 5 star read! Great story that tackles sexism, classism, and women empowerment. How the romance was implemented was just breathtaking, to say the least. Cheong and Madam's relationship from the beginning to the end was such a Rollercoaster of emotions that was so beautifully written and worked out, I wouldn't be surprised if this yuri was in the top 10 yuris when it comes romance. We get such in depth perspectives of both these characters, not only from their childhoods, but with their relationship as well. I can't say I saw the twist near the end coming, but regardless if I did or didn't, this manhua didn't disappoint when it came to putting me on the edge of my seat nearly every chapter. It was so hard to not hit next chapter that I found myself finishing all 85 chapters in a matter of 5 days. Not only was the story for the protagonists perfectly wrapped up with no loose ends, the author also managed to give all the supporting characters the closure they deserved. I'm very happy I came across this yuri again, it simply is an amazing piece of work.

A Most Consummate Night

Complete | Sora | 2022 released

Not something I usually read, but I really enjoyed it lol. I originally skimmed it over because I thought it was similar to The Tainted Half, I'm not disappointed with how it went but I really only read through it because it was so short and because I had already made it through chapter 2. Concept was a little lost on me, felt like there needed to be a little more explanation regarding the incense- or at the very least, a little more concern/ confusion coming from the female and male lead. They kinda went along with everything going on a little too well lmao. Overall, this was a nice, quick read with great artwork and nice storytelling.

I Adore you, Teacher

Complete | | 2022 released

Not vibing with the story one bit. Like always, the art is breathtaking, but this story was... everywhere? I don't even really know how to articulate what I thought about it. I did want to like Seonmin, and I did in the beginning, but pitied her towards the end. The professor is just straight garbage for reasons outside of cheating and manipulation, and I don't even know where to begin with Yujin. Like, all the characters were bad and the ending was horrible. I'm so surprised too because this authors other works are pretty decent, not sure what happened here. Drama be dammed, this was hardly entertaining to read, it just just an amalgamation of sex scenes and nonsense. To give such a complex plot to characters we know little to nothing about and no time to even developed a connection with was bound to end bad, but this read was an all time low for me sadly. There's no one to feel sorry for, no one to be happy for, no one to root for, no end goal or anything and I hate that Yujin still ended up getting her happy ending. I hate that I couldn't enjoy this read, but even so, I still gave it 3 stars just because I love literally every other manhwa the author has made, this one just didn't sit right with me.

We Are in Love So Much We Laugh

Complete | yuni | 2019 released

I love these two. I remember buying a copy of I Love You So Much I Hate You, and immediately fell in love with the artwork and story. I'm so glad the author continued their lives together through these side stories, they've been such a pleasure to read. I love light hearted, down to earth, relatable stories like these with such great characters. Highy recommend checking out I Love You So Much I Hate You if you haven't already. Really, anything by this author I would highly recommend, but these two drive it home for me.
