The Reason Why Ophelia Can’t Get Away From The Duke

Ongoing | Joo ari,Samoh | 2019 released

Read upto ch33..currently there are 50 chapters. I have a lot of problems with this manhwa...it presents itself as a mystery drama type of webtoon yet it doesn't keep me on edge, or makes me feel intrigued. In every chapter there is a cliffhanger yet in the next chapter it gets resolved or it is a misunderstanding or misdirect of some sorts, it feels so anti-climactic and I feel like I got duped like one of those YouTube thumbnails..Ophelia and Alec seem to be equally as psycho as eo yet suspect eo..then they appear to be innocent. Either the author doesn't know what to do with this plot or they completely gave up..Alec seems like a psycho..The MC who is probably OP as heck with her magical ability is sooo weak..the death of her mom and the duke (which is a mystery) don't make me curious at all.. Henrietta who is obsessed with Alec also dies under the hands of MC's brother(I say this lightly cuz her mom was a player and had tons of hubbies)..the deal with the syringe ugh..I am the most suspicious of the detective rather than anyone else..ironic right? The translation also sucks ass..the plot is messy as heck..the art style makes everyone look the same..they look so plain..I was planning on giving it two stars but as I'm writing this review, I'mma change it to one cuz I held all the way to ch33 yet I am still as confused as ever if not more so..my mood is sour :(

I Only Came to Find my Dad

I Became the Younger Sister of a Regretful Obsessive Male Lead

Ongoing | Purple Lemon,Debin | 2000 released

It was originally a bl but now is a heterosexual manhwa..I don't know how to feel about this cuz it just seem a bit insensitive to me honestly, I guess there is a bit of logic sprinkled in the fact that the og novel revolves around the fact that the uke was the only person to show the seme affection of some sorts so he grew attached to him regardless of the gender or sexuality, I kinda like that cuz I am of the belief that everyone is fluid in their feelings, they are just constrained by norms of the society. How I feel about this manhwa? It has a nice and easygoing feel to it. It obviously tackles child abuse and homosexuality as well as animal abuse to some extent? But overall it doesn't feel serious. It doesn't try to delve deeper into the problems that it has, rather it states it as if it's a piece of information to the reader i.e us. The fact that the ml's dad was in a relationship with fl's father yet was forced to be apart due to the previous duke i.e the ml's grandpa, adding to it the fact that ml resembles the father of the duke (currently) who abused him for loving a man and split them up, is a reason for the ml's abuse. And the og Rachel who grew up pampered by the same duke who abused the ml cuz she resembles Liam (his lover) all the way from her green hair and bright personality, is a reasonable reason to why she partook in the abuse of ml and she was the first one of the side characters to die by ml's hands. Another problem is the MC's overall atitude, someone once said that the overall tone of the story depends on the MC and their personality and outlook on life. This is an interesting case that supports that claim cuz MC is fully aware of the circumstance that ml is in cuz she read it and he is apparently her bias but she fails to notice his state of mind and has a hopelessly positive and simple mindset on how to solve the problems faced by the ml. She is akin to a privileged nepotism child who says she only got the position she is in cuz of their hard work alone and not cuz of their parents position or connection, it seems as flimsy as that. The plot is stupid all in all. No logic just some cliches in romance and isekai plot meshed together that doesn't flow well at all. The author is either a novice or someone trying to take advantage of the current trend of the over saturated genre of isekai.

It's My Destiny To Be The Hero's Saviour

Ongoing | 도담 | 2019 released

How do I start? The satisfaction level I had while reading this was 2/10 and that is me being generous. It feels like the writer got inspired by other manhwas of this genre and decided to implement the most common tropes found in this genre..like the child abuse, neglect from family, mother dying, and her remembering her past life memory. It is also kind of stupid how the lines uttered by the characters in this manhwa reminds me some other mahwa and the mentioning of contracts and what not. "You can be a child", that should be heartwarming but it just felt some out of place. It feels like the writer ran out of time to make the situations the characters are in to make it make sense or the lines they say are just for decoration. I don't feel like the characters motivations are clearly justified and it feels like the whole 'my family loves me' trope all over again.

I’m Worried that My Brother is Too Gentle

Ongoing | 류희온,이수호 | 2019 released

It is indeed a shoujo manhwa..so typical and filled with cliches, all the way to having an overprotective and loving brother and family to having the crown prince be the ml. Those two things are not the only things that bothered me, I could mind it as it is already a staple in this genre and medium so whatever I guess. The problem is the MC, missy you are a 20+ working adult who already had bf in your previous love coupled with the info about the world u are in currently, so why r acting like a fucking child? Everything about her irks me, from her clothes to her hairstyle to her childish thoughts and preconceived notions all so for the plot to make her end up with the ML. She could be hailed as a genius with her knowledge from her past life as well as being an adult in a modern world working in a company. But she acts stupid, seriously a scrapbook? U fucking kidding me? Her acting like a child, skipping everywhere, everytime she pouts I lose a minute of my life. Her being dependent on her brother also doesn't sit right with me cuz she is way older than him yet is being cared for by a young teenager. She doesn't try to improve her brother's situation despite lamenting on it, I mean she does try to solve it but the way she goes about it is at the level of a child and not a full grown adult. Why couldn't the author just make it a story about a privileged noble lady whose story we can see from her childhood, then it would make more sense. She isn't even utilising her knowledge and memories and it seems to be there only for the current trend of isekai so..why? Btw, I only read till Ch5 but I will drop it. I can't bring my level down to read shit like this.

The comments are heavily positive. I feel like it is a haven for fujoshis so I can't bring myself to even get why they like this so much. I finished 1 chapter and I think I already get a gist of how this is going or going to go, I mean the synopsis definitely helped too. The uke is a bit too ripped imo..him acting a bit of a seductress while the emperor is aware of his intentions is a joy to read. The problem I have with is I don't want to continue, I don't know why..

Sickly? Husband's Contractual Wife

Ongoing | Serian | 2019 released

Maybe someday? Not likely but u never know? The synopsis sounds like a Chinese manhua/novel..so typical and cliche..like how u gonna take care of him and be surprised when he gets attached to u..the plot tho..heiha!!

A Stepmother's Märchen

Ongoing | orka | 2019 released

Love it so much..seems like Nora is the ml..the prince is sus..love her children..love Shuri so much..all in all a good read Update on my thoughts : If I am being picky, and this is totally subjective btw..I don't want there to be any male lead..I know in ch90..we can see a glimpse or hope that Shuri likes Nora based on her reaction to a lady giving Nora her handkerchief and her giving it to him later which he readily accepts. The main plotline of this manhwa which I absolutely adore is the family dynamic, I see Nora as a child. Tho Shuri physical body is nineteen years old, her mental and emotional age is another topic all together so this development I don't necessarily welcome it. I mean seeing old Nora's flashback about his love and devotion to the dead Shuri is cool and all but I wish it would remain that..an unrequited love. It is much more memorable and gives more impact to the story that way. Him calling Shuri "Noona" is super cute tho. Him and Jeremy dynamic is so much like Zoro and Sanji, I live for it. The thing about Elias, I hate how Shuri and the rest of the characters approach the issue. He has an inferiority complex to his bro Jeremy and thinks himself less. With the twins connection and Jeremy and Shuri spending so much time together, ofcourse he is feeling left out. Like the way Shuri unintentionally leaves him out as well as Jeremy's attitude towards him as an older bro not understanding his feelings in the slightest made me feel a bit bitter. Like him and his gambling issue, the way Shuri like yanks him out of his bed with her preconceived ideas questioning him about the prince when he just wanted to find the place where he belonged and he was welcomed there..in the casino. His sister and little bro tattling on him to Shuri and Jeremy respectively although in the long run is good but in the present, is very bad. He must already feel alone and isolated. And the fact that his younger siblings trust a girl who is only 19 years old (as far as they are aware) sets a bad precedence..the way Jeremy was like "I'mma beat some sense into him" when Nora told him about it. Nora's involvement also makes me feel a bit icky too not gonna lie. Shuri sleepwalking problems. Gosh I can't say I hate any characters but even if I hate the characters like the Cardinal, crown prince and the guy who serves the Cardinal with no eyebrows and large eyes that never seems to blink..they are still great characters nonetheless. Shuri although she is trying her best is lacking in so many ways, being blind to Elias' plight, the whole crown prince situation and the mystery surrounding Jeremy's dad..she is not trying to face it head on. Like she just dawdling here and there and she is so fearful and shows too much emotions and is easy to read..Jeremy although being my fav sibling is still so naive and lacks communication with Elias. And Elias, whom I have the biggest soft spot for, not reaching out to his family cuz of his own insecurities and that dream or is it reality where he looked at a portrait of their whole family but...he was not in it...ouch..The twins selling their bro out and tattling although I get it they are young and they think that it is the best thing to do in that situation. Nora is a decent and overall an all rounder I guess..his family treatment of him is deplorable and when he tried to reach out, his dad admonished him and his mom was spineless and he fell in love with Shuri who reached out to him. The crown prince with all the mommy issues in the world..the fact that his late mom whom he has never seen except in portraits looks identical to Shuri..like I get it psychologically but the way he goes about it is so wrong but he is so interesting!! The priest backstory was also so interesting and provided a bit of an insight into who he is and how he functions. The late empress looking like Shuri. I have my eye on that and the way the Emperor looks at her too..hmm..the current Empress is a girlboss..Who did I miss? Oh the Duke(?)..he is so full of mysteries tho I am 93 chapters in..the reason why he chose Shuri and taught her and the way people admired him..I wanna know everything about him..
