I Became the Lousy Side Top

Ongoing | Robo,Seulki,Backill | 2019 released

Ahhhhh omg hyeonjin is too precious I can’t honestly protect that boy. I don’t hate mujin (yet) so at this point I want them to be a throuple even though I know that’s near impossible cos mujin’s ass too possessive but I really am hoping jaewoo ends up with hyeonjin because they just make me feel all giddy nd shit. Ngl, I really did think jaewoo was going to be a top (short kings can be tops too !!) even though he follows the formula for the classic BL bottom, but looks like the BL universe had different plans for him lmfao.

Heesu in Class 2

Complete | Lily | 2017 released

Ahhhh this was so wholesome and the author’s art style made it feel 1000% more wholesome cause they all look so plump and fluffy. PROTECC MY BOIS FROM ALL THE HARDSHIPS IN THE WORLD. Talking about Sunwoo and Dahm, I don’t wanna sound nitpicky but I feel like Dahm’s character wasn’t going to be easy to win over even with the backstory he had of falling for someone else, which resulted in him putting up this wall. Idk for others it may have seemed to be dragged out, but I would honestly want more trying and effort before Sunwoo and Dahm got together. Because of this, their whole story gave off puppy love, and towards the end I kinda predicted they would break up because aside from the puppy love vibe, realistically it is hard to stay together when one’s in high school and the other in college. But I did like that they showed the hardships and not everything was sunshine and rainbows (aside from the problems that Seung-won and Heesu had). But even if they did break up ofc they had to have a happy ending with each other again also can we talk about how Sunwoo has so much rizz ?? Anyway I’m so excited for the live action.

The Third Ending

Complete | Chobom | 2019 released

They had a lot of really cute moments in this manhwa. Season 1 was okay, but season 2 was not as enjoyable as season 1, mainly because I progressively did not like yoonseul’s character after season 1. I almost felt like dropping it but I was already too deep in, so might as well finish it. (SPOILERS) His biggest con is his possessiveness and tbh possessiveness isn’t bad as long as it’s just right or it’s what the character is expected to be like in darker, and more serious plot lines which is the opposite of this manhwa. His character at the start didn’t feel possessive at all and was just laid back and chill that’s why when he did a whole 180 I hated it cos it didn’t make sense and it didn’t fit. I was fine with him being desperate and assertive when he was running after jun, but damn ngl when his possessiveness became crazier after they started dating, as well as knowing that jun only had eyes for him, was such a big turn-off. Another thing I didn’t like was when he was manipulating jun into having sex with him, then after successfully manipulating jun into having sex, he did too much and I was just cringing the whole time because bro handle your mans with care idc how horny you are. Yoonseul is lucky that jun’s trope is being blindly in love with his lover. Aside from treating jun good, pros is that he’s at least self-aware that he’s too possessive and immature. Anyway after all that though I’m really just team jun that’s why I had a lot to say about yoonseul lmao (after all the hurt yoonseul put jun through I couldn’t stop myself xD) Although aside from my critical analysis of yoonseul’s character lol, the manhwa does tackle some problems that gay couples do encounter and that’s realistic enough. The few chapters towards the end + the side stories were the cutest moments they had during season 2 and it made yoonseul more tolerable and likeable.

The Art of Taming A Tiger

Complete | Kom | 2019 released

This was so good and interesting ?? Especially since it revolved and featured deities from korean mythology (and other asian mythologies/deities). All characters were likable too (likable in the sense that if they were bad, I didn’t hate any of them as they merely served their purpose). Another thing to commend about this is the comedy, it made me laugh my ass off + their comedic side comments are gold. For some reason the art reminds me of manga/anime art from the 90s-00s and I was nostalgic the whole time I was reading it. The only teeny tiny flaw I could find was that beomjin and yoonjae’s relationship and feelings developed too fast, tiny only because it didn’t bother me too much since not everything is slow burn, but I feel it was a bit too sudden still. I think the author was going for a more fleshed out plot line of the story’s universe that’s why it was the way it was, nevertheless, we got more scenes of their romantic dynamic so that’s a plus. The story and yoonjae and beomjin’s romantic relationship were balanced. I’m so happy I came across this because I’ve been having a streak with bad BLs recently so this was definitely a palate cleanser. I just hope this has more chapters tho !! Or at the very least side chapters. I feel like there’s still more to tell about their world (the 3 worlds to be exact).

Perfect Buddy

Ongoing | Lash,Daki | 2000 released

Take a seat cos this’ll be a long one. The first season was really cute since they bicker like there's no tomorrow, but in secret they're pining for the other like crazy. The first time they had sex was also really satisfying because thank god and finally? The tension that they had, sexual and non-sexual, was so good. The following season had put light on the "incident" that happened in the first season, but other than that there are so many things that are being kept from the reader until now and it's really putting me on edge, 50 good, 50 bad. It's fine to keep secrets as it keeps people interested, but the more I read this, the more I feel like I don't know anything at all it makes me feel frustrated; frustration felt especially on the couple's relationship. Let me break it down into a few points: 1. I get slow burn, I love slow burn, I worship slow burn, but their relationship is more like going in circles rather than slow burn. They move forward, then move back, or worse, they just become stagnant and show no progress until a few more chapters (at times several more chapters). They have the same doubts and the same misunderstandings that they can't break free from because they don't communicate and "solve" everything with sex. I love the manhwa's sex scenes as much as the next guy, but I can't even enjoy the sex scenes sometimes because it replaced a conversation they should be having. The porn is overpowering the plot when there’s still so much to unpack. 2. Obviously they're not just sex buddies let's bffr and idk if I've misunderstood something, but I'm pretty sure Youngchan wanted to take the relationship further until Hyunsoo got the wrong idea again and just fucked out of anger? idk man and now Hyunsoo is definitely expecting something romantic from their relationship, but at this point he still can't be honest about it. It's making ME want to rip out both their hair and slap some sense into them. 3. Connected the first 2 points, I also think that the author is trying to drag this out by bringing out problem after problem, just so that they can put off any real progress between Hyunsoo and Youngchan’s relationship. On a more positive note, I love the art, especially the expressions, it makes me crack tf up and is definitely meme/reaction pic material. Idk why I notice it but they draw pretty nice hands too like the form’s really dyanmic and all that. Sex scenes are pretty decent too just that some are too repetitive. The comedic aspect is good as well. I would have rated this a 4 if it didn’t kinda go downhill after season 1 or earlier half of season 2.

Biting the Tiger

I’m sorry I dropped this, this probably had a decent plot, but this made me cringe so much I couldn’t get myself to read past chapter 19 anymore. Obviously hanwool’s romantic feelings/attraction towards yunho were grounded on something (as I read in the comments), but still, attraction and jealousy showed too fast. All their romantic interactions felt shallow and concocted out of thin air. Also idk but yunho’s so annoying like bye crying like a victim when hanwool was just being protective of his friend and we all knew that his intention from the start was to hurt naroo.

My Little Inferno

Complete | ASADA Nemui | 2019 released

I always knew asada nemui’s works always had elements of fucked up in it (I remember that one with the priest or the brothers lol) so I feel like I have a small bias, but ofc sexual assault is still a no no. It’s crazy how japanese BL make it seem so romantic both in best and worst ways possible. Despite that, I would say that this manga was a bit lacking in the romance department, but I think this is attributed to their more realistic carefree personalities and expressions. I actually like ma-kun’s expressions when he finds something about hitoshi amusing.

Suki de Gomen

Ongoing | Okamoto Satoru | 2000 released

I was sure I read this before but it’s been rotting in my want to read so I finally did read and it was meh. Haruto’s feelings for him came out of nowhere, it was so unconvincing to read because how tf you gonna catch feelings for him just by observing him for a few times not even a flashback about how his feelings were developed or a long-time observation on kouta. They also used that “I don’t like guys, but I don’t mind if it’s you” trope lmao. The story relied on basic date stuff and lack of communication so it’s not that special. They’re both the problem tho. On haruto’s part he shoulda just said no to the other girls, like idgaf if you’re kind, be kinder to your partner and give them the reassurance that they need (to a reasonable extent). On kouta’s part, since he has low self-esteem and low self-worth, it’s like he doesn’t allow himself to be upset because there are others “better” than him out there, when in fact he was the one chosen by haruto. It doesn’t seem like a lack of trust on kouta’s part even though that was what was said, he’s just too timid to say anything. Also fyi for people looking for yaoi (as it is tagged here) they do only have sex 1 time and focused more on the couple’s relationship so it would have been better if this was mainly tagged as shounen-ai aside from yaoi.

Muri Marriage

Complete | Itsuki makoto | 2019 released

This was really good though as an annoyance to lovers trope worshipper their fights and tension with each other really spiced things up. The sex scenes were really hot too because of that (or maybe I was in the mood for smut lmao idk). I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that chikage was a simp for shirakawa all along and that they were actually kind of in the same boat already lmfao. Though I kinda wanted a teensy tiny more development before they confessed to each other. Lot of adorable scenes and it’s sad tabata didn’t have a side story where he finds another person to love or sumn. Good read.

Boku to Koi no Hanashi wa Shinaika

I really liked how even though the plot started with the love at first sight trope, it was paired with the really ridiculous and unserious art style and I really am here for that. This manhwa will guarantee you a good time and I’m excited for updates because they are adorable af.
