Ending was really subpar. At chapter 40 (official conclusion, without the side stories) it ends with a cliffhanger that feels like there should be so much more after that. Lots of important things and tensions never finished, and they don't really get together in the end (what happens to the pack now that the alpha has chosen a male fox? What's the deal with his grandfather? What happened with the fucked up brother? Did MC ever see his dad again? It's vague, but the main characters got together later, right? How did they resolve MC's trauma and trust issues around emotions, and ML's cynicism towards being used? How sincere was ML at the beginning when he declared his love so readily? It's all frustrating that it all feels unresolved, it's not one of those cases where it being unresolved could add to the story and leave things to the reader's imagination; these are important topics that are started but never finished). They're just kinda into each other. Can't even tell if the ML's feelings are completely sincere, because other characters don't believe they are and it's not fully fleshed out. A couple of those questions were sorta addressed in the side story, but the way they divided things was dumb and still didn't fix much (I think they thought it would make things a dramatic end, but dramatic ends are conclusions, not cliffhangers). Pretty cute, and I'm a sucker for this trope. Got derailed towards the end for a few chapters with what felt like fluff filler chapters, but came together with a good close and every question that I had answered. It tripped me up for awhile since Xue Yu and Jiang Sijun look pretty similar. Xue Yu is the ex, Jiang Sijun is the guy who planned Yuan Mu's death with Hu Peng (his right-hand man, and a psycho) in order to be with Xue Yu (who is culpable to a degree, because he's the one who called Yuan Mu away, with the pretense of making up, in order to give Jiang Sijun an opening to kill him). Coming-of-age, character growth, top cold to everyone else, childhood friends. Really don't like how the art style slowly becomes more childlike over time, starting at chapter 36. It went back and forth for awhile, then really got bad after season 3 started. If I read again probably look for the R15 version for it. Halfway through 38 they just have a repeat of a prior chapter, and it continues until the very bottom of 39 (start reading after the asterisks). Up to chapter 75 complete as of 6/21/24 (last checked 7/1/24).
