Miki Donoue has faced constant misfortune since childhood. Timid and kind, he isolates himself to protect others from his struggles. One night, a mysterious man, claiming to be an "akashibito" who feeds on human misfortune, asks Miki for his misfortune. Miki names him "Shiro" and takes him in, hoping to help. Shiro's devotion brings Miki joy, and he is attracted to him. However, as their happiness grows, something begins to happen to Shiro's body.

A celestial monkey named Gokuu, Saiten Taisei, oversees the Celestial Peach Garden but only eats the peaches. When he runs out of ripe ones, he tries an unripe peach, which he finds disappointing and throws away. This peach rolls down to Earth and transforms into a human after ten years pass.
