Ch. 1-4: Bird tengu Ouki saves injured dog tengu Kuro, who refuses to show Ouki his human form. One day, afraid of his attraction to and his nature as a harbinger of calamity, Kuro leaves Ouki. Miserable with Kuro gone, Ouki goes to look for him, but collapses and is saved by Kuro.
