Maria-sama Ga Miteru
An essential in GL category! > The relationships and feelings mostly are platonic / ambiguous and there aren't any kiss scenes (apart from the situation of one of the characters, Satou Sei - Rosa Gigantea, who had been in an actual lesbian relationship before, as we see in the story), so it feels more like GL subtext. Notwithstanding, "Maria-sama ga Miteru", especially the original novel series, is regarded as one of the most prominent works of the GL panorama. And it's a must-read story indeed! [Baka-Updates] The setting is Lillian Academy, a private Catholic all-girls school where the student council is known as the Yamayurikai (Mountain Lily Council) and younger students are taken under the wing of older students through a system known as the "soeur system" ("soeur" is French for "sister"). The Rows Of Cherry Trees
«✿✿» Well, it's not exactly a GL story like the ones we got to know in modern times, but "The Rows of Cherry Trees", released in 1957, certainly is a precursor of the genre. Considering how old it is, I was pleasantly surprised to find such a nice and well-written story! While it may not be a masterpiece, I think it's a beautiful classic manga with GL subtext. I'm glad I got to read it!
