On Doorstep

Jimmy is a pickpocket who gets detained and made to apologise and work for a day (for pay) by an excop (Reese). He plans revenge but ends up falling for Reese. It was an intriguing and unique plot. I love how they have now changed each other's lives forever. Jimmy has been instrumental in Reese getting over his trauma and Reese has made a honest man out of Jimmy. They're really good for each other. The feel of the story was somehow more sincere and genuine than I had come to expect from yaoi.

Lack of Love

Complete | Seoil, Okdongi | 2000 released

Hajin is reunited with his first love, Hangyum, who is now an idol. Hangyum seems to be pretending not to know him, while later on suggesting that Hajin really went to school with his twin brother. Hajin's ex (Jaehee) and all sorts of convoluted plot points and misunderstandings keep things muddied up for a while. Hmm. About this one. All of the misunderstandings were not addressed. I hate loose ends like those. Jaehee, though, what a real arsehole. I'm so glad Sohyun is such a smart and compassionate woman. Good going on Hajin's sister's part, as well. There really needs to be better addressing of all the plot points, though. This was such an unsatisfactory ending :/ 4.4

Lion Heart

Simple, hot, relatively less problematic. Not really engaging either. 4.4 Edit: WTF, no, this is gold! So hot and so healthy! ~Ahhh. I love this for them! 5!

Kimi ni Ienai Koto ga Aru

Complete | mofumofu edako | 2019 released

The cheerful, kind and popular Kyousuke became the brightest point in neglected and lonely Kasumi's life during their school days. Kyousuke has always had a complex about chosing the right path (because of his asshole dad), so he always believed his love for Kasumi was wrong. And when he realises Kasumi loves him back, he rejects that too. And yet, meeting after years and years, their feelings remain the same. Bittersweet. They sure took the long road home. But they got there, in the end. Maybe, if they had stayed together from their high school days, it would have lead for a much worse experience, hurting each other inadvertently. I know that. But this was still such a painful thing. It was good, though.

Stand-Offish Voice

Complete | Sakuraba chidori | 2019 released

Sequel 2 of Voice series 1: Continuation of Takafumi and Kazumi's story, where Kazumi doesn't express his wants yet again and misunderstands by himself and gets made at Takafumi, yet again. Really tired of this, tbh. 3.8 4: Continuation of Norihisa and Wataru, where Wataru misunderstands something Norihisa said, and takes it to heart. Ngl, kinda feel bad for both of them here. Glad it got resolved. 4 5: Continuation of Inaba and Mizushima's story, where Mizushima pretends to break up with Inaba, just to try and get a rise out of him. He's just such an arsehole, I wish the uke would become incredibly famous and desirable and make him super jealous!!! At least, Inaba does seem to have him handled, more or less. 4

Knock on Wood

Complete | Kamyeong | 2019 released

Jiho reunites with an old high school friend, Eunchae, while in uni. Eunchae, weird as ever, asks Jiho to hit him with a strange stick (he's a big believer in Shamanism) but they soon find out who likes hitting whom. Quickly falling into a relationship with each other, they were little prepared for the trials and tribulations ahead!! It was obviously good, no denying that. But it was also an uncomfortable read, at times. Triggering, even. While the first half was fun, and the over the top comedic situations refreshing, I was really thrown back by how easily they could break up with each other. And how, even though at that point, they had thought Jiho might have been taken advantage of while blackout drunk, Eunchae treated it more like Jiho was cheating and less like he had been raped by someone he had trusted!! And when Jiho was not enjoying the kinks and still going along with them, it was kinda traumatizing? The mangaka tried to play it off afterwards and it mostly worked, but, ugh. And Hyun was just, such a terrible person, but I still hated his first love more. What an absolute bag of dicks. I'm glad Hyun's getting therapy and I'm glad the boys became strong enough not to let Hyun impact their relationship anymore. Also kinda also bummed we didn't get to see Jiho's results. Still. It was good, really. Just, kinda sad, too. The sort of sadness that creeps up on you. 4.5

Sayonara Bye Bye

After spending centuries waiting for his fated soulmate, Rei is resigned to spending eternity alone, cursed to feed on humans' life essence (surprisingly not semen this time), as his kind does... until he meets Yuto, who takes an immediate interest in Rei and takes up the pursuit of absolving Rei of his boredom and putting a smile on his face. Even boarded up behind centuries of ice, Rei's heart can't help but begin to thaw. It's a tad shallow, and overall a very rich-people-problems plot. But it was still not a bad read. It didn't make me made and it wasn't problematic. Just shallow and a bit silly. “I'm sorry I planned our wedding without telling you”. Really?! 4.4

The Knight's Unfulfilled Dreams

Ivan was appointed captain of the national guard under the new emperor Kalyan, who ascended to the throne following the revolution that Ivan's brother Robin lead to dethrone the former emperor who was cruel and incompetent. Ivan, who was in love with Klayan, offers himself to the future emperor under the guise of preventing him from going out every night to look for men, but little does he know that what lies ahead is accusations of treason and an unexpected plot hatched in secret. Yeah, how about no? Where the fuck is Robin and what the fuck is Kalyan trying to pull and who the fuck is running this country?? I need answers, dammit! There was way too much blackmailing and death threats and subterfuge in there for this kind of light ending, wth?! 3.8

Yokoshima Innocent Days

Complete | Kumoi Natsume | 2000 released

Yuki always takes care of his childhood friend Natsuki, who is unable to do much without him. Or so it would seem... At first, I thought Natsuki to be a really boring and obvious character. But he turned out to be shrewder and smarter by far. And more tragic too, but he used Yuki's misconceptions well to his advantage. About Yuki, though. I think he's just really conceited and kinda a bit selfish too. I don't hate him, but he's certainly not very likable. He cheated on the girl too. Glad she broke up for other reasons without knowing about that. And Naruse's wakeup call? Yuki totally had that coming. They were a bit hard to read with the lemons, because they're too young for me. But overall story-wise, it wasn't too bad. I just didn't like Yuki very much. 4.4

Your Eyes, My Words

Complete | 초은 | 2019 released

Hwane and Jinha had an odd sort of twisted relationship in high school where they made out with each other, but were too scared to confess their feelings. When graduation came and went without the air being cleared, the memories of their time together festered and became old wounds over the years. Neither thought they would see the other again, and yet... It was fine. Angsty as fuck and bittersweet; heavy on the bitter and not nearly sweet enough. I honestly didn't really like Hwane, tbh? He hadn't confessed to Jinha, either? During high school. But he had the gall to act like he was the only one being hurt. He lied about how they met, created problems in their relationship where little existed, never responded to Jinha's declarations of love and even broke up with him! But the way he dealt with that café owner was really good. The way he dealt with everything else, no. Jinha had his faults, but, wow. He does not deserve and ounce of the hate he's getting. 4.44
