Here U Are
Very lovely so far, and even the misunderstandings, which I freaking hate as a trope, are at least sorted out fairly quickly. I love that this story has so much to do with being out and living life in a world filled with uncertainty and homophobia. So much fear and heartbreak, it makes me cry. But there's hope, and I really appreciate the flashes of them together in the future. It hurts right now, but we know that in the end, they're happy. And LiHuan really is perfect for YuYang. He's patient and kind and understanding, and he's willing to deal with Yang's messy baggage without being pushy or frustrated. He's perceptive, and he isn't just forcing himself on Yang. You can tell that they'll have a healthy relationship, because LiHuan really listens and pays attention, and YuYang, once he gets past all of his fear and his walls of protection, loves with all his heart. I get why people are annoyed with the random couple introduced. Why did she shove another straight guy/gay guy relationship in here, especially one that has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the story. I mean, I know that several of them are friends with Pan, but why is the uke just some weird, random straight guy with an annoying personality? At any rate, I like the story enough to tolerate it, but it would be nice to focus more on the careful, complex process of teaching YuYang to trust, and to undo all of those years of hurt.
Bokurani Matsuwaru Etc
A little rushed at times, but ultimately sweet. I feel like the second story would have benefited by being a full novel, where the friendship is explored and deepened. As is, it's like a snapshot of something he saw happen, the end. He hints at wanting change, but nothing changes. At any rate, not a bad read. I feel like I've read it before, but it must have been a while ago, since it was just vague recollections.
Happy Birthday
I need to read this again carefully from the beginning, but either way, it was a pleasant read. I may have skimmed a bit near the beginning, mostly due to anxiety, but I really liked this story of friendship! You just don't get to see that as much. However, a lot of good stuff was too brief or glossed over. I wish it had better-explored those themes. Oh well, still liked it.
Oyasuminasai No Ato Wa
Hm. I liked it in ways, but I feel like it had a lot of potential to be better. There were also some frustrating, rushed elements, and I felt like things were resolved way too easily. It was very sad when that teacher got fired because of a misunderstanding, though. And the way that the uke was treated didn't seem to be as much of a focus later. I would have liked to have seen more of that. Anyway, it was sweet, and it had a happy ending, so hey. Plus it's rare to see an omegaverse that actually focuses on the kids or pregnancy, so that was interesting.
Kurui Naku No Wa Boku No Ban
I liked it, but that end with the condom drinking made me dry heave. Why? WHY? Anyway, I think there were a lot of moments that could have been more detailed, and I would have liked to have seen the main pair fall for one another in a way that was less abrupt. There wasn't enough on their emotions from the start, just sexual harassment, then suddenly love. I wish there'd been way more with the ex-boyfriend, too. I like what a sadist he was. But I wish they'd touched more on why he just left out of nowhere and never wanted to mark him. It seemed odd. At any rate, I look forward to the sequel finishing, because it's only partially done, and Utou deserves a bit of happiness, I think. If he can actually get it. x_x
Restless Webtoon
The pace is a little odd, but I'm intrigued. Only five chapters so far, though. Boo. Poor guys. They both dealt with some crap back in the day.
Rabbit's Foot
Damn it. I didn't check to see when it was last updated, and now I have to just sit and wait for updates that may never come. What's worse, it appears the story has a tragic ending. This is all bad news for me. x_x I was really interested in this, but I knew it would be fucked up. I guess I was just hoping that there'd be something worthwhile at the end. Oh well. I guess it doesn't matter anyway, since this may never actually be updated. I looked at the raws and tried to fill in my own blanks, but it's not the same.
Nocturnal Flight
Haha, definitely messed up, but it could be worse! I wish it were longer and played with the psychology of it more, but man, that poor kid. And the cycle continues. No way is this gonna be a healthy relationship, but I get the sense that this boy won't be able to walk away after. That supposed "sensei" is a piece of crap, of course, but certainly he does stuff like this all the time, moving on when he gets bored. Maybe someday he'll get what's coming to him.
Gintama dj - Hanbunko
Through the first half, this was hands down the most fucked up of the Gintama DJs Harada has done, because he trusted his friends, and they were all happy together, only for them to turn on him and brutally rape him. That scene was so messed up and sad, but that was what I came here for, so I loved it. Once he just sort of gave in and stopped fighting, then went crazy, it lost some of the appeal. I liked the idea of them sharing him evenly, though. The three of them living together. I hope that happens, even though this is messed up. Harada is great with intentionally fucked up relationships. This just ended too abruptly to give it the satisfaction it could have had. They regret what they did, but can't let him go? Are they trying to let him go? I feel like it's just a mind break, and they're going to push him over the edge in the end.
