Guilty Affection
45 ATS Takes a traditional approach to the esper x guide thing. Emotion-wise, this is really heavy with their past in the institution and all. Almost dystopian. But I like it. And I also wouldn’t say this a story that deserves to be completely categorized as “romance.” The ML is lowkey kinda toxic, and I am reminded me of the average omegaverse when reading this, since guides and espers are so reliant upon each other.
Someone Like You
This is really good. I especially like the imagery. I’d say this is “dark” in terms of emotion/mental disorder. The story just has tons of layers that are so interesting to peel back. Like the washed out art, for example, matches the overall tone of the story, which is relatively solemn yet almost shocking. The characters are dynamic, and I like seeing how their internal conflicts manifest externally. Very angsty and a little slow burn. There are these little moments that the MC experience, and it’s very telling of his character. By far, I’d say he is the most intriguing thing about this piece while the ML is a bit creepy/manipulative. Love the storytelling. Great art.
Shippo no Koi
Ahh this is really cute. I like how the past life thing was handled. Doesn’t feel all that cliché. The dogs are everything, and I was so surprised by their age gap, haha. It’s apparent how the ML takes on dog characteristics. Healing, funny, nice read.
The edge of ambiguity
38 ATS I knew this wouldn’t be wholesome, but….. The ML (Jihwan) is a walking red flag. He’s typical too since he was born with good looks and a silver spoon in his mouth. I don’t know if he has ASPD or something, but man. He’s obsessive and is manipulating the MC, and the MC doesn’t even know it. Poor MC (Sooyoung) gets caught up with two weird guys. The story is relatively dark and even a little gorey at that one part, though it’s a school “romance.” Lots of heart-racing drama…. I love the art, and rather than the actual romance, I’m more interested into what’ll happen to them later.
A Thousand Cranes
Surprisingly, this is not a story about a murderer and the pitiful witness to his crime, but rather a story about healing from your past trauma. The premise is definitely an interesting one, but what makes this story so special is the composition and the god tier writing, holy… It just makes so much sense despite the outlandish setting. The ML is really just some dude who fell victim to his father’s wrongdoings and teachings while the MC is also a poor guy with a sorry excuse of a father who left him with debt. They find solace and light in each other and promise themselves that they will make that light last forever. Pretty great message if you ask me. The author really outdid themself with this story. 10/10
Even If It’s Not a Dramatic Love
4 ATS I don’t know about you, but I really like this so far. The romance is kind of subtle, and it is slowly builds up and up. It’s just like a very good example of excellent storytelling. I quite like this kind of slow burn. Feels realistic and mature in that sense.
