Modernist
ALRIGHT. this is def morally debatable. in the first chapters i kept going ehhh bc ho-il kept being compared to his older, dead brother. but it also improves, or is going to improve i think. it’s very interesting, and i think it capture the tragedy of the brother’s death quite well in that is show how both the mc and ml are affected by it. the storytelling is beautiful imo
Foam of the Sea
this is insanely well written. the conflict between the north and the south feels realistic. the character development of the MC is also quite tangible. she goes from a pampered noble lady to a girl who does not care about status. her personal growth too and the themes of letting go of regret. just love that. but the ML… phew THAT PLOT TWIST WAS SO GOOD?! no spoilers but it’s been such a long time since a story has managed to rivet me like this. the characters are all nuanced, even the mc’s killer and ex-lover. art is good. really good story 45
Dance! Subaru
“Ending” was garbage and rushed. What the hell man? Some random dude gets introduced in the last five chapters, and Subaru quits the country WHAT??? what pmo even more is that he’s some random old man who sleeps with her ugh. so nonsenseical update: okay so that was my rage filled immediate feelings after i finished reading… but this is literally a MASTERPIECE; i don’t get why more people are appreciating this! maybe it’s bc it’s too old or the themes are too dark? Subaru’s character development and dance is simply mesmerizing. The way she expresses all her experiences, her trauma— through dance is so beautiful. I also like how this manga acknowledges the influence black people have had on dance, especially hip hop.
