My personal reasons:
1) i dont wanna look at boobs and other parts of the girls, cause why would i want right?
2) yaoi has more plot variants
3) yaoi can have a faster plot development , cause there s no need for the basic straight romance steps that are necessary (if there s one step missing it feels like the girl was wronged)

I feel like it’s real disrespectful of u to say that it’s a form of “cultural appropriation” because even if we are a “community” we are NOT a culture, but anyways, there has been many people in the LBGTQ+ community that writes heterosexual story and comics, so it should be fine the other way around. I like to think it's as simple as what's better than one object of interest, is two! Just like how heterosexual men often enjoy lesbian pornography, heterosexual and bisexual women like gay pornography. Therefore, it's expected that the yaoi genre would be so popular. reply
Personally, I started reading manga before some of the current good shoujo were scanlated so I lean into the yaoi because although there's mostly porn, at least, at least I don't feel like my blood pressure gonna explode because of all the stupid misunderstandings.
