Well it's kinda true, you have read a lot of Mangas with that trope so your brain has pretty much accepted and normalised it setting it aside from real life. Remember that manga is fiction. It isn't real so it's normal not to care for fictional characters. now, if you listen to True Crime, and don't empathize at least a little bit with the pain and awful things REAL PEOPLE have went through, then that's when you can be a little concerned haha   reply

For reference I was raised in a very conservative and Christian state. Was raised in a church where being apart of the LGBTQIA+ community is considered a major sin.
