i saw a weird norm here that shouldn’t even be normalized in the first place; low ratings comics for absolute trash reasons. i found a lot of perfectly fine comics to read only to be shock when the rating was so damn low, even comments are mixed with how it doesn’t deserve a low rating and ppl might gave low rating to “gatekeep”. i thought that too at first and chuckled to myself, only for that little joke bubble to be popped rudely when i saw people legit gave 1 star bcs; “doesn’t look interesting so i’m not reading” , “not interested in this” , “i don’t like this comic format” , “didn’t read it i just want to rate 1 star” , “idk”.
this is the case for most low ratings comics.
but those with high ratings? usually bcs of some “known” uploaders even when those comics are absolutely trash. most of the real good stuff are being rated between 8.5-8.8 and this is minus trash reasons + known uploaders norms. no wonder comics ratings here are so weirdly distorted and honestly, this is kinda sad bcs hidden gems are being buried down with rating below 9.0. sometimes barely even reach 8.9-9.0.
so can yall actually start to rate after you’ve read stuff and rate it based on the actual story instead of these weirdly personal reasons that you don’t even care to make it private? (the comment on each rates can be made private yk, not just public) people like me wants to know the reason behind those ratings so that i can see whether it's worth the read or not, that’s the whole ass reason why ratings exist so i absolutely don’t want to see 1 star rating just bcs you’re feeling bored on your bed. it’s getting ridiculous honestly like let's not.
i’m pretty sure a lot of people sometimes did get weirded out by these low ratings norms on this site bcs half of the comments that i saw on each comics that i’ve stumbled on before was just people wondering what the hell is wrong with the rating instead of comment about the actual comic. like idk that’s when yk it’s a people-on-this-site problem, not those comics itself tbh.

I've also experienced this, some people give rapey stories 5 stars and actual good stories less because it was boring, cringe, etc etc.
I read a story about a beautician who had a sensitive smell and a smell fetish, the uke molested the seme and it was acknowledged in the manga and the comment section which should be the right case. However, the seme raped the uke and forced him multiple times but as you already guessed, it wasn't discussed about in the story. Some retards in the comment section even refused to accept it, defended and justified his actions. It had 9.1 ratings and it's quite popular.
I'm just venting now but another example is that a uni setting story without any kind of non-con stuff and actual cute story had 8.8 rating. A BDSM manga with consent also had 8.9 rating while the other one without consent and just rape had a higher rating.
Some readers are just in their own delusional world, they have a rape fetish. Although, yes, people can have different preferences and we don't need to be the same but do they have morals? Nah.
Anyways, ignore the ratings, don't trust it and just read the comment section so, you could decide whether to avoid a manga or not.

The only option now left is to just read whatever piques your interest whether it has a low rating or not because people will never change and it's such a shame but they will not listen to anyone. As you mentioned the reasons, some of those people also give a low rating to BL/GL stories because they're homophobic. They don't even read it.
