Older BL mangas are topnotch

I realized that over the past 5 years I've read more Korean manhwa than manga, so I decided to take a trip down memory lane and look for my favourite BL mangas from the last decade.

First thing I noticed was that most BL mangas are anthologies. I think it's because they are published first in a magazine (you know, like weekly shounen jump but BL) and then they get compiled with the rest of the entries from that month. So a lot of BLs are only oneshots or only has two chapters max. But nonetheless, the writing is fire.

I remember having an existential crisis over that one BL I've read when I was 13, sadly I can't even remember the title (all I know is that it's a classic blonde/black hair pair with early 2000s artstyle)

Trying not to compare with manhwa/hua but I've read a lot of mangas that tackles serious topic like pedophilia, SA, DV, that doesn't romanticize it and it's not something that's 'in-your-face' too. The writers will give you a panel and you'd immediately realize "Oh, it talks about this". And you don't have to read 50 chapters. Most mangas have 5-6 chapters per volume. No fillers just straight to the point storytelling.

Of course you'll see this formula in a lot of newer mangas too. But I'd say I'm biased towards the 2000-2010 era. I learned a lot of life lessons too.

But you know what's even more topnotch than original bl mangas? Doujinshis. But that's another topic so...
