If you want to look at it in a scientific sense, it's been ingrained in animal behaviors for millions of years. Male lions are pushed out of their birth prides to prevent contaminating the genepool by the female lions while their father continues to mate with the females or are forced out when other male lions invade and take over killing the cubs......
