I think you're confusing empathy and sympathy. A person can be sympathetic but not empathetic at the same time. Empathy is when you understand and feel someone else's pain yourself. Please don't use empathy as a social/moral metric for comparison of innate goodness / kindness in a person and beat yourself for it (well, I know i did at one point). Honestly, I'm not a fan of people who take empathy too far, to the point of feeling sympathy for murderers or criminals. I saw people say they felt bad for Netanyahu when delegates walked out during his speech, and I just stared at my phone. At a certain point, it stops being empathy and becomes misplaced sympathy. Idk coz I do be the same. I even cries over 2D characters esp those who suffers. I’ll walk on the streets sees parents with a kid with disabilities, I felt so much sadness for them. Would offer prayers that they remain healthy and strong, even tho I’m not religious. Once saw a hungry lady begging for money, I took her to a restaurant. Same as......   reply
