Why are some people so empathetic

I'm not a sociopath I have a fairly normal level of empathy and am mostly sympathetic if anything. But theres people that will cry over anything, I had a friend cry over a homeless dudes carboard poster, because it had squiggles and stars and was decorated with effort. I mean I get it but crying over it is crazy. How are some people so empathetic that they'll cry over something thats pretty minor and cry basically everyday. I don't get it. Idk if this is a sign of empathy but also constantly upholding social justice movements, I couldn't be assed unless it affects me, like idc to spread awareness over shit.

Maybe I just suck idk.

I think you're confusing empathy and sympathy. A person can be sympathetic but not empathetic at the same time. Empathy is when you understand and feel someone else's pain yourself. An empath is what your friend is, since they cried over a homeless dude's sorrow even though it had nothing to do with them. They cried because they probably felt bad...... 1 reply
