I think many people overreact to it. I know I watched it within the first year of getting into anime when I was 12 and I thought it was....weird (though by now ive seen far far worse). I never liked the story or the art but at the same time I wasn't all "everyone should stay away". It was never entertaining to watch and the art was terrible.
