I'm not straight but I would highly recommend not to make jokes about them, because in my opinion it's just... unnecessary. Love is love, and unless a straight person is attacking you, for me there's no need to use the straight card against them as a weapon. To be honest, I usually avoid like there's no tomorrow anything related to highschool because I hate the setting. It depends on what they do.
