Yes, the most popular BLs have plots and powerful figures that resonate with a lot of people despite having very toxic male leads and SA. I am a completely hopeless romantic so I'm always a little sad when I read romantic manga that portrays characters who have found "the right one" after they've lost their v-card. I feel the same when I hear stories like this in real life, even if sometimes they have no regrets losing their virginity to someone they don't love.
