Your parents are in the wrong. Gifts should be wanted and giving without expectations. Obviously not a monolith but a good chunk of anime/manga has gay lean to it. Historically anime did gay way before everyone else. Or at least did gay more. Yes, it was a lot of subtle things at first but also full on lgbtq+ characters. because of that there are a lot of tropes in anime based off of queer innuendo.
