Yes, familiarity definitely has a role in the habituation and acceptance of toxic and abusive relationships in these fictions.
I'd be interested to know your thoughts about other reasons.
TBH I think majority of Ukes can be replaced by female protagonists in these BL/Yaois. This is sad to admit when you're supposed to read something else than romance shoujo/josei, but then find Ukes that are even weaker than a girl in many situations
(◔ヘ◔)... Don't want to read bara stuffs either, but when you want to read some plot with a bit of smut you're stuck with these characters and theirs heteronormative unbalanced dynamics...
Is it so hard for BL authors to just write a romance where it's just two guys falling in love with each other in some thoughtful plot...? This amount of toxicity and smut scenes makes me question often why I'm reading BL in the first place (tbh I didn't sign for this, but for the intriguing "gay" romance as to why 2 guys would fall in love, their societal strugles, obstacles and all... NOT ALL THE PORN!). Well, this is just me, though... I have that old and romantik vision about BL, you see ^^'
Sorry if I ramble too much.
Shutline is nice, I agree but I dropped it because it's too smutty for me for the moment. I may reread it later.
Nerd Project is a good reading too, if you want the more equal kind of dynamics... :)
Didn't read Code Name Anastasia but this one looks really good as well, + action which I'm a big fan.

The Alpha Male stuff...!! Haha, that thing that makes all these ML so stoic and cold, mysterious... unrealistically calm and collected, unsweat... that makes you wonder if they're not doing some boring office work instead of doing H stuff :'D
Our supreme Alpha Male Ryuichi has done tremendous wrong in all these K BL nowadays. He's litterally the MOLD to all these rich and cold, black-haired MLs!
I don't know about you but I was never a fan of Viewfinder, I do acknowledge however the important role of this BL in the development and expension of explicit yaois.

I'm not gonna lie viewfinder was one of very first works I've read. Initially when I went through all I liked it , actually my brain totally separated this real life hetero rape and this bl thing.
I never knew there was something wrong with what I'm reading. Romaticized it .
Gradually read other works , then realised just for who I was simping.
Today I click that manga when it updates , read , then leave.
That thing already lost all it's hype. Sensei is just dragging it

I guess another one of them would be a "kink" and insecurity. For many readers violence due to the possessiveness of the ml signifies some twisted form of royalty, something like "oh, he wants him so much, to the point of obsessiveness, so he'll always be loyal". A second one is connected to the messiah complex, the need to be the one who "changes" and "saves" someone twisted. To that you can add the human need to feel special, something like "He hates everyone but me". I hope that makes sense.
The problem is that many shoujo represent women in an extremely sexist way, as many Asian authors are sadly influenced by the patriarchy. This in its turn, in combination with the fact that most yaoi and shounen ai are made for women by women, leads to the creation of heteronormative bls with the exact same sexist stereotypes and the only difference being the swapped gender.
Also no problem, i understand what you mean, although i do read smut, i prefer it to also have an engaging plot with it, and i want both characters to share a strong emotional connection. Smut comes secondary to that connection for me.
Understandable, it's not for everyone. Personally i enjoy it because the characters feel real and not created to please a fetish like most yaoi. They're flawed and humane.
The title "nerd project" reminds me of something. I may have read it. I'll check it out later. Thanks for the recommendation anyway.
I've read Code name Anastasia, it's amazing! I love both mls. Read it asap, you'll love it i think.

Your first para could be summed up as "suspension bridge effect". If I'm remembering it right. Where people start finding solace in only good thing they have.
Second one , I love stories more with plot less with smut. As you mentioned. Plot is key , it makes me come back to them again and again.
About code name Anastasia. Mahnwa is good , likable now . Not sure if you're aware of it's spoilers.

I'm not sure. I'm not a fan of rape yaoi so I can't say but some ppl who have been raped say they find comfort in it. It helps them heal somehow. I've read a lot on forums or just in my research, since I couldn't understand why people would like it. There is a rape fantasy, to be taken by someone they like.?? I don't know. A lot of people disparage this saying it's sick. But to me it's to each their own.
Btw, if you've read spoilers for Codename then good. Otherwise, it's a very triggering read.

The suspension bridge effect is part of the reason at its core, but that's not only it, it doesn't exactly mean what you said, although what you mention is part of the reason as well. The reasons have to do with trauma and other psychological effects as well (Hybristophilia). The suspension bridge effect definitely though explains in a lot of cases the confusion of the brain between fear and pleasure. It's too complex for me to explain in a single comment, and frankly I don't feel like analyzing further. That would be too much writing, I'm sorry (╥﹏╥) (it's not that I don't respect your comment or anything. In fact i do find the topic interesting)
Yes, exactly. That's why I'm extremely picky when it comes to yaoi.
I'm not aware of the spoilers, to be honest i usually try my best to avoid them so i can judge a story myself. Hopefully code name Anastasia will remain good.

Technically, a rape fantasy is unconsciously connected to "consent" because it's a "space" under their control. They feel familiar and in control without the effects of uncertainty and the genuine fear it causes in the case of actual rape. It comforts them to know that this time they control their environment and feelings while keeping hold of the sense of familiarity. Familiarity=comfort. Doesn't mean that they find rape okay or that they would like to go through this traumatic situation again. The brain is a rather complex organ and the coping mechanism are a bit paradox. There are sadly plenty of negative effects to that though, one of them is "desensitization".
People usually fear and judge what they don't understand, so yeah, it's not really surprising that certain individuals say it's sick of them to do so. Thankfully, people grow and in a lot of cases learn how to be more understanding. As i say, Judge the story not the individuals who read it.
Just did, and I won't be reading it... It's not my cup of tea.

So you managed to understand what my whole personality is through the few sentences i wrote? You must be an excellent mind reader! Perhaps you could benefit from reading about human "bias".
Just remember, I'm not the one that chose to personally attack someone, so i find it very amusing you called me "trash". The irony is real, but i guess adequate self awareness is not something all people have.

Why are you attacking Shu when your comment clearly said "I don't follow"?!? Does that mean you didn't understand Shu's statement?!? It is perfectly clear. So why are you attacking them on a personal level?!? You best reserve your judgement on the comic. You came here to comment on the comic right?!? Not the person who commented on the comic.

I first followed Roses and Champagne but then fell behind, but then (at the time) I was an avid Tweeter User, and got all kinds of spoils on it and then so I never continued reading it. I was so shocked because even though Caesar is a dangerous man their relationship portrayed thru the drawings didn't seem that way, funny and coquettish at times too. And the drawings are beautiful. So I expected some major push and pull btwn the major characters. But it turned into something sick real fast. So I essentially dropped it like it's hot. Then the official came out so I might try to support the author and artist anyways. The novel is being introduced on Tappytoon, and since it's being translated I might read it there too.
Initially I wasn't attracted to Codename Anastasia because the artist(s) made him look TOO much like model and didn't reflect his work, but after a break I came back and it seemed good, but I wanted to read ahead (because it seemed good and the art is so breathtaking and now it had more than just action, there's mystery and intrigue) but the illustrations for the raws was just up to the translations anyways so I found and read the spoilers. Which still sounded ok. But the translated novel only came up to somewhere in vol. 2 so I ended up buying the raws and using the app to MTL it. And boy, it was a huge regret. The spoilers weren't as bad as the ACTUAL novel. Granted, I hadn't finished Roses & Champagne Manhwa so the comparison might not be accurate, plus, I have not read it's novel, but if I HAVE to say so, this one is WAYYYY WORSE. It's super psychological and a heavy read and like a whole volume is dedicated to the rape and confinement period. Before that he was raped too but then thrown out in the snow near the riverbanks somewhere near the end of Vol. 2. Their relationship got resolved near the end of Vol. 4 but I feel like it's because TaeKwon didn't have much of a choice. Granted Psych Bogdanov fell in love w him, but the only way he knew how to love is to treat them like an animal/by "taming" them. Taking them and using them until they are no more. He is named Psik Bogdanov (Psycho) for a reason. And his family placed him in the Russian secret intelligence branch for a reason. But he kills ppl for pleasure so. That should tell you the kind of person he is.
I hope the seme gets burned alive, i want him dead by the end of the story. This had so much potential yet it just turned into another rapey trash story in which mc will probably end up with his rapist.
