I like tsunderes just not characters w/o logic behind them, a good written tsundere still makes se

Did a man write this? I noticed the women that are supposed to be geniuses or powerful tend to be moody, childish, and unreasonable when they are. Like playful attitudes, childish behaviors? Fine, funny even…Childish mindset that is hypocritical and makes no sense? Annoying. It makes no sense for her to act this way when he helped her through his lectures etc. In fact it's a bonus. Now, he can actually view her magic and give her pointers to help her grow. It's an advantage to get private lessons by someone you attend lectures for. If she was smart she'd be more than happy to let him join even if he's not that talented in tangible magic. It's like have a professional coach who retired and is passed their prime. He has the knowledge to give her pointers so of course she should have been more than happy to have him join even if it's on the sidelines.
And if someone were to try to say that her actions are justifiable bc he acted like a talentless bumb all his life, it's obvious he's changed since well he is HOLDING FUCKING LECTURES that masters or higher level mages are attending, Like what? And if a higher up sent him with her, they obviously know 'they" can handle it. So her logic should be to trust the higher ups who know better and have more experience. The only thoughts I'd have were "Is he going to be okay" and "Is he going to slow me down" which I would keep to myself until his life was in danger. From there I'd Tell him to stand to the side and cover me the best that he can. That's why I think for a genius or someone talented her logic is dumb, socially, emotionally, and logically.
I hate when authors do this bc and I'm speaking for all women characters like this bc this isn't a tangible women bc this is simply not our experience: for a woman who is supposed to be, for her gender, used to being looked down on before showing her true prowress she should be more socially aware that what she is doing is the same and to keep it to herself until she actually sees his talents. I mean comparitively to males she should emotionally more aware of what not to say. And I say this bc it's obvious that they are still living in a patriarchal setting that treat women the same as this world with how many male characters are in higher positions to women. So socially she should be more observant in judging him first without seeing for herself what he can do.

I think it's fine, you're just thinking too much.
    it's called "pride"
and technically MC is still on lvl 2 and she's 4?5? i forgot.
which means she's skeptical over mc, it's understandable. But since she's seen things mc can do, she'll have some character development and treat mc better.
Everyone may have similar and different way their mind works, and they act in situations.

You didn't read all the way it doesn't matter his level if she attended and still attends his lectures. It's just different, assuming by your name on here you are also a women but there is just a way that we act that are different from men and this is just not it. She acts outside her age bracket and outside everything we were taught as a kid. Maybe if she was a commoner stole away into the deepest crevice of a closed away mountains would I understand her behavior but she isn't. She has different expectations that she has been taught to adhere all of us have. You cannot get away from familial views or even peer views. Even if it's not explicitly stated it still happens. But the main reason I said you didn't read all the way through is because I explained how her character isn't really thinking of how a woman would react but as a plot device that has zero sense. It doesn't make sense why she acts this way and (omitted from previous essay)-> reason we are so hated to be in stories by others. They make it a girl bc they this is how girls act and it's simply not this is such a common trope that it's already annoying. And if the character did have her same traits and were male they would be a little boy you never see a grow man in this shits act this way. If they are going to write a story do it write. It's like so obvious this was writen by a man and if isn't by someone completely devoid of friends. Also not like I hate the story this story is obvious good if I read it all the way too it's just this specific character .

We don’t know her well enough to judge that, as a women yes depending on culture or surrounding social norms, we might act a ‘certain way’ though I personally disagree with that, people are capable of escaping from social conditioning especially as we grow older, gender doesn’t play a huge role in how we’re ‘supposed’ to act. It only shape us due to how gender is perceived by this world. Since without any sort of gender norm or gender conditioning in the world, the result would be diff. But that’s for a diff topic lol. Tho u do have a point abt the way male write female characters to apeal to make audiences, they will feel one dimensional and have zero development, eg won’t acting nicer since they have to keep up the ‘tsundere’ act. However considering how this author write the others I doubt that. , for example
1.the treasurer (hostile attitude due to her job and Oscar embezznent -> gave support Oscar regardless by sending in frans to help -> extremely trusting of Oscar as he recover the money damage + recommend him to the researcher)
2.the potion department student (personality is objective and logical, point out a hole in Oscar plan that could potentially leave the white tower in danger as well as test his capabilities so she could decide whether to follow his lead or not -> show Oscar his support after proven himself-> act as his assistant regarding the potion reports and management)
the female character show obvious development and is more human, rather them being inconsistent and their development being sabotaged by being forcibly put in a box to apeal a certain audience

    Unknowns July 27, 2025 12:46 pm

You also have to remember the tower manager is a woman and a young one at that and the fact that Veronica is an orphan but made it to the white tower so idk abt the setting and how they see woman in power yet(from my experience, not all story incorporate women struggle esp fantasy story as power is less on physical attributes and social status and more on magic.) Even if it does, even if you’ve experienced personal mistreatment or comments due to being a woman, not everyone will have the thought process of ‘oh I shouldn’t look down people since I know the experience of being look down upon’ especially in things they take pride in, people tend to hold things they value as something not a lot of people will understand unless proven otherwise in all departments. We’re not aware of her upbringing other than her being an orphan that fact she even got in the tower despite her social status mean magic is above all. You’re more likely to be look down upon if you’re a lower mage than u are a woman, simlair to how ppl view woman, just because you’ve done something great in one department doesn’t mean you’re someone worth listening to in general , you’re still a level 2 mage.(eg how the researcher already made his judgement)

    Unknowns July 27, 2025 1:07 pm

For the character Veronica, Personally I don’t see her as being ‘childish’, and more of her being prideful. The information we’re given is that she’s dislike the og Oscar since she said something along the line of ‘u act so arrogant and look down on others since u now come from a noble family despite us both being orphans’ = she isn’t the type of character to look down on others for no reason. During the lecture she doesn’t look like she was showing any interest at first( her looking away in disinterest while answering) meaning she already made a judgment due to his previous character but is willing to give a benefit of doubt. But when she’s proven that her earlier judgment is wrong, she did have a development from uninterested and doubts -> being friendly and holding him as an equal and asking him abt the training room, likely to gauge his combat/magic abilities and in her words ‘to test him’ likely due to the og Oscar looking down on others and slacking off though. when she found out he doesn’t even train seriously to know abt the new training rooms she immediately held contempt again, to her it means his previous attitude (eg being a slacker etc ) isn’t completely gone. She went out of her way to test him to challenge her own judgement. that fact that she disliked Oscar for being narrow-minded and looking down on others + even considered if it was Oscar that beat the new record despite his previous attitude, mean that she constantly challenging her views and is open minded to changes so her eq isn’t considered low in my book.

Hence why she immediately was upfront about it when they were sent out to deal w/ the slime, ‘just cause you’re good at lecture doesn’t mean you have better good field experience than me = doesn’t mean ur good at dealing with slimes so follow my lead instead not that she didn’t understand why he was send out, I don’t think there was a panel that show her questioning why he’s even there just that she prideful in combat skills(eg first brought up the training room + her saying her field experience is better). Also It’s not that she doesn’t trust Oscar’s advice as a lecturer, she was firm about him being a talented lecturer. If she didn’t trust him at all, she wouldn’t have ask him in the end, her attitude is more related to her nature of being stubborn/ prideful about asking for help. hence why she had to turn her thought process around ‘im not asking for help I can solve him on my own eventually but since he’s the reason I lost sleep him giving me an answer is compensation.’and For someone who claim to be the leader, she was open to listening to Oscar abt the slim odd behaviour and to put down her earlier judgment since he seem to know what’s he’s talking about despite his lack of field knowledge. And I don’t understand why you said ‘if I were her I would focus on him covering me’ cuz isn’t that exactly what she did when the moth showed up? The situation wasn’t exactly dangerous since there’s a level 4 they’re only there to clear up slimes. When they’re in actual danger,She clearly told him to get behind and when she’s unable to fight she told him to run and was planning to sacrificed herself to hold the moth down while Oscar can make his escape. Also When the stakes are high, usually people are less likely to listen to uncertainties, for someone who claim to have better field experience, she was open to listening to Oscar during the battle and even ask if she can be taught about his mana sensing skills despite calling it nonsense at first = she is willing to put her pride away to not misjudged someone.

Also they just said she’s a talented mage, there’s different types of smart it’s not one size fit all. I don’t think they described her as someone as socially smart aka Interpersonal intelligence or Intrapersonal, just that she’s talented in skills eg mr tattoo man is talented though he is lacking in communication skills and awareness. So the expectation you hold for her were higher than the story claim. But as I stated above, her actions shows that she isn’t dumb at all in those regards. she’s pretty well-developed, though I get why you associate with the bunch since they typically swear and yell at lot as well as being prideful + Esp with how she behave w/ frans.

I call her 'dumb' not due to her intelligence, but specifically about her social intelligence, which women are more keen to have unless, as I said, they were raised in isolation. Also, you said that they are willing to learn—ummm, I haven't read that far yet, kek. All I saw was her before the main mission acting a brat. (The next chapters were not out yet.)

I am glad you agree with some of my points, but the main thing I was complaining about was how intelligent she was but acting like this, and how common this trope was for women characters. It's annoying. They can be very prideful in their abilities without acting in such a way. That is why I ask if this was written by a man, because a man's first thought when someone weaker is joining their team is, 'I hope they don't slow me down,' and a woman's first thought is, 'I hope they will be okay.' While I don't know about you, but this has something to do with shared experience and how it feels to be perceived in such a way. While yes, not everyone feels that way, a vast majority does, and when it comes to writing, in order to flesh out a character, some knowledge of social standing and stereotypes must be added, and that nuance is how they do so. Moving past that, I just think her character is very inconsistent. Maybe that did change in future chapters, but from the standpoint I am at, it just feels like a misjudgment on the author's part. And while yes, we can move past what we were conditioned to believe, there are some things we can never get rid of, and those things are exactly what she lacks.
