butch and femme are almost explicitly a gender expressions. that's why the whole femme vs fem debate goes on because they're different like masc and butch.
Butch lesbian here: They’re both butch. Butch is a broader spectrum than ppl think. Masculinity can be represented in many ways and is expansive. I do wish Bora was more stereotypically masculine, but she’s still def butch. Mitsuki is def giving baby butch vibes — give her a couple of years and she’ll own it.
i am very rigid with terminology. so looking back, i think for the most part i am looking for a very specific term within the term butch to describe bora (like futch or something, sport butch ??) and mitsuki. w what you said about mitsuki i agree that its something she'll likely come into later. but currently ? ive seen people calling her a stone butch and im just like yall can't even handle cowboyjen or kay knighting.
I totally get you on wanting to adhere to terms — especially those which hold so much history in dyke culture. I also think it’s important to not negate butchness esp when it is self-identified. So if Bora feels like she’s butch, she’s butch. She might not be as masculine as Cowboy Jen (whom I adore), but her gender expression is very much still in line with butchness. I’d rather have her ID as butch than masc, which just feels like a placeholder for people who are scared of the word butch.
On Mitsuki, she’s still early in her butchness but her dynamic with Mitsuki is very butch/femme. Plus, I think getting confused as a guy (butch rite of passage tbh) gives her the right to claim butchness. Also as a stone butch, I can’t help but cackle at people calling her that. I’ll agree with you there on the rigidity esp b/c Mitsuki is a minor and it would be inappropriate for that subject to be addressed fully.
this is true femme 4 fem rep because despite what you may think femme is different from fem. also, people saying bora is a butch are sort of wrong ? if anything she blends masc and fem styles but she's always pretty close to the fem side of the spectrum, i think it's just her hair and muscle that make people think that.
