This is not ignoring a root cause because there is no root at all; it is very clear that the author did not set up his character based on his trauma, but simply chose to write a one-dimensional character who somehow can be redeemed simply because of his childhood trauma. I don't understand why mental illness is being brought up for his character, because there should not be a discussion of mental illness when it comes to raping someone, that is the one unredeemable act you can ever do to someone.

But to say that trauma plays no part in shaping repeated predatory or violent behaviors is kinda incorrect. Severe childhood trauma, especially abuse, neglect, or exposure to violence, can fundamentally impact a person's thoughts, emotions, and reactions, like I said before. These types of experiences are more likely to create harmful behaviors, emotional detachment, aggression, or poor empathy. Even adults who are physically strong, wealthy, or capable are not immune to the long-lasting effects of early trauma. Knowing this indicates that human behavior is influenced by experience and learned coping mechanisms. I'm not implying that the victim is "innocent" or that the assault is acceptable. Recognizing trauma as a factor allows people to focus on prevention, rehab programs, and addressing the root causes of these types of behaviors, rather than pretending they arise purely from choice or greed.

JaeKyung's personality is one-dimensional because not only does he lack depth but so does the story as well; his behaviors and personality have been consistent, we are on chapter 75, and only now is his trauma somehow important to the story, not because it adds depth to his character or personality, but because it's important to redeem him. Jaekyung is a character who is shallow, who has no depth, a.k.a., no nuance. It is really, really, REALLY heartbreaking how you guys actually think the author put actual thought into his personality this much, because reading the story it is very cut and clear that she created a story whose main character consists of abusing others and then maybe having one moment of compassion and then going back to the same behaviors all over again.
Final note, just because you like a character doesn't mean they have any depth, okay?
