I have been reading yaoi since forever and lately everytime I read any, especially these past few months almost every comment is talking about how their disappointments that there is no switching when it was never stated there would be. Instead of going to look for the ones that have tags about switching or looking for recommendations for switches, they go onto regular yaoi stories and complain. It has gotten annoying and makes me not want to read the comments anymore. The comment section used to be a fun read but now it’s flooded with the same comments.
Not saying that I don’t like a good switch, but I don’t comment on every one I read saying how I’m disappointed or was clickbaited when there isn’t one. I go look for recommendations that have switch couples instead.

I just block people who’re annoying and move on at this point. My point stands that having a position preference either personally for your own sex life or for the fiction you read is morally neutral, switching ≠ “actual gay representation” as all gay relationships are in fact gay representation, that the person below doesn’t understand the function of the word “heteronormative” as it only applies to heterosexuality as a societal pressure, that there is a patronizing, misogynistic undertone to their words, and that they certainly are annoying and worth the block. My mention of my preferences (which have never changed) wasn’t the point of what I was saying, they’re just putting words in my mouth because they’re failing to understand what the rest of the words in my comment mean. Also, judging by their words, it seems like they’re saying these things not because they personally are gay, but because they have friends who are. Hysterically funny. But whatever. I mean I personally like switch couples and it’s one of my favorite genres. I’m a girl who has gay friends and some of them are verses, some are hard bottoms or hard tops (would not switch even if their life depended on it) so I see no issue with anything here. I think the problem would be finding switching as “weird” or “gross” cause that would cross the line. But whatever someone prefers as their jack off material shouldn’t be interrogated or scrutinized if it’s not anything immoral.

Anyway, as someone who is gay and has a strict role and position preference, people online who talk about how switching is the only “actual gay representation” are just annoying cunts who feel as though they are somehow more progressive in their perversions than everyone else when sex is a morally neutral act. Switching isn’t more or less common than any other sexual act. If you open Grindr right now you will see people list things like their body type, age, how big their dicks are, their position preference, etc. BDSM sites like FetLife where gay kink positive people meet get explicit with positions, D/s roles, and kinks. Lesbians even have traditional butch/femme dynamics. None of these things are “heteronormative” because the function of that word relies on HETEROSEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS within the patriarchy being viewed as the only correct way for a man and woman to be. You are not “heteronormative” if you as a fem gay man only like it up the ass, or as a masc butch are stone and only like giving pleasure to a femme. Gay sex cannot be heteronormative because it is inherently subversive—ask an Evangelical Christian if you’re being heteronormative for only liking strict top/bottom dynamics or if you’re more “real” as a gay person for switching and they’d just tell you you’re going to Hell.
