Nah, you're good, there's a lot of lesbian/WLW women who prefer yaoi over yuri. I used to only like BLs, too, but nowadays I only read GLs.

My sister (who is lesbian) is the same. Personally i havent read either, but in her words "in yaoi, the couples dynamic is more realistic and I cant imagine myself in their position." My interpretation: authors often objectify female characters, which can make it difficult to relate to them (in which yaoi would be more enjoyable due to the dynamic) [keep in mind this isn't my field of expertise, but I'm just telling you what I've heard and interpreted from my sister. I hope this helps ease your worry]

    I'm the same as you
Yaoi was created for the female gaze to begin with. Most Yuri are also created for the male gaze.
For me, personally, straight romance is completely off the table. I'm queer and I like queer romance. But as a woman, I don't enjoy reading about stereotypical women written (mostly) by men. I assume most men think the same about Yaoi.

I also speed read through most of the smut scenes. I enjoy the character development and intimacy, not necessarily the sex.

Not weird, it's normal to like something you like.

If you are BI, then the love you feel for either genders is the same as having a different interest/hobby and loving it! There is NOTHING, NEVER any weird thing about liking something YOU like!!

Uhm actually I just want to add that Yuri is not necessarily "male gaze" now.

From the wiki page of the term "male gaze" In feminist theory, the male gaze is the act of depicting women and the world in the visual arts and in literature from a masculine, heterosexual perspective that presents and represents women as sexual objects for the pleasure of the heterosexual male viewer.

And Yuri is now way more diverse in it's works, having a 78% being female authors in the field.
Refer to this Google docs: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/e/2PACX-1vQqV7eWgqi-NL39QdMXTDrjX_FyCaNOAvCD50Ai0TUNwupOx1c2h58mbr4jkz0-qwO_e0uRgRltt5_J/pubhtml?pli=1

Saying "Yuri is a male gaze genre!" is just inherently incorrect!
Some Yuri may be created for the male gaze, but most of them are not. (I can add more but this was not the main topic of the discussion so I will refrain.)

But still, it's not weird for the OP to like what they like! They can enjoy what they want it's their life!

Omg hard agree, I'm honestly so tired of the "yuri is mostly written by men for men" discussion, ESPECIALLY since it's not true. Like it's fine if someone doesn't like reading GLs or prefers BLs, but can we stop using that false argument already...

Umm.. I appreciate the effort you've put in to educate me about this. Since I have very little knowledge about GL, I can't disagree with anything. I was just talking about my own preferences (maybe I should've worded it differently). I've read a few GLs, and as I said, I felt like they were mostly stereotypical. Also, idk why, but I don't see as many GLs with good character development and pacing as I see BLs. (I'm open to recommendations btw)
I'm not trying to shit on anyone who's into GL though, sorry if it came out that way.

    No harm taken!
I am just glad that I can educate someone on a topic that I like, and hope that if I did mess up on others' interest that I will be approached the same way and get educated!

There are some great ones in the GL franchise and I recommend some of you're interested!

She Loves to Cook, She Loves to Eat

    Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon

    Bloom into You

The Moon On a Rainy Night

    Useless Princesses

    Ouji-sama Nante Iranai

    Soulmate(Yuri)

These are my personal tastes that I think you might enjoy! And hey if you don't enjoy GL as a whole genre, that's fine too! You can enjoy what you like, and if GL is not something you fancy, no harm done in that! There is nothing wrong with liking what you like!
