Shallow characters? Who? What comic? Seungho is complex, nakyum is bold for a commoner from that time, inhun is pure manipulative evil with motivations yet to be revealed; hell even the old servant got it going on--keeping Yoon's secrets and staying with him after the other servants left with the main family. And Jihwa? How exactly was he using Yoon beyond the great sex? What made him go place a spy in Yoon's household? Personally I'm attached enough to nakyum to not want to see him hurt.

Did you mean the characters aren't fully developed bc we don't have detailed backstories? Even without that enough has been revealed to invoke some kinda feeling/attachment. These characters and their feelings are drawn so well I feel like the artist has really brought them to life but maybe that is just me.

I may have to disagree as well. It's the reason they're so underdeveloped that their personalities remain two dimensional. They're just overused cliches. Recycled character archetypes and the cold and ruthless/naive dynamic. Assuming Seungho is complex simply because he's a narcissist is like assuming a painting is abstract and too complex for the human mind because it has random colorful splatters all over the canvas. He is interesting, but I am excited for his development. If there will be one.

Don't get me wrong, I want to see more depth in the character development but I have already seen enough to make me feel not just sympathy but empathy for nakyum; a morbid curiosity as to what makes Yoon tick (and I see more than just narcissism at play btw) and disgust towards inhun's manipulations. So yeah I'm hooked on the story and attached to the MCs. I'm curious about where joseon commoner, nakyum got those brass balls to stand up to Yoon--those scenes alone took us off the cliche path; also that rich manipulative seme and poor uke dynamic is made fresh here because inhun is cast as the homophobic, sinister megane love interest the uke is trying to protect--a willing victim is so much more tragic. Also the possibility that inhun is put on the redeeming arc is just as likely as Yoon going more deeply into the villain arc so we have that unwinding plot to look forward to. I love that everyone's mileage may vary in the comments too while we see where the ride takes us.

Not all I read is ‘yaoi’ that’s the thing. I don’t read this fetishic material and consume it thinking this is authentic gay representation with deep ass homosexual characters. I know it’s gay porn written only for women BY women. I’m not that stupid enough to think that every moment that seems intricate or unique is ‘progressive’ and deep.
This story's plot is so fucking interesting...the characters are just shallow enough to not get too attatched...the story will be interesting no matter which way it curves
