I get it, he was so convinced it was love and that he was all he needed that it drove him crazy, partly because I think he realized it was no longer love and the other with proving it was, some how those contradictions drove him crazy and he begin to force the situation, it's a bit sad because for him it was love but for the uke I think this is his real first love...
i'm just glad in the end he realized it wasn't love, and that he was emotionally (as well as physically) just draining his 'partner' and i'm glad he did the right thing in the end
