The way that the picture links to the death of her family is that they needed money along with power to survive and all the businesses they invested in all went wrong. In other words in order for them to survive she needs to keep it a secret that her family is investing into cameras, or else whoever it was that was originally making to family go bankrupt will find the business and make it fail. Soooo she had to talk that way to the man.

THIS is what I was thinking about the entire time I was reading! I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE WITH YOUR STATEMENT, the news man didn't deserve his roasting. If only he saw these points and at least argued it with Lippe, I wouldn't have too much of an issue of this scene entirely. How the hell would someone expect a 5 year old to know the word "copyright" let alone be well versed in it (I was going to write this comment but you beat me to it, you evil person >:C)
I don't like how she treated him.
He didn't really deserve that.
For starters, he got the mother's permission.
Yes, calliope can think for herself, but a normal five year old has no idea about such things, and he didn't know the amount of intellect she possessed.
What, you want a working adult to go around asking every five year old if she wants to participate?
That's what the parents are there for.
They're there to set the terms and make sure every side is alright. If she didn't want calliope's photos out there, she could have refused. Take it out on the mother, not the poor boy simply conducting business.
Not to mention, the camera was just invented.
Yes, in this day and age, it's pretty dangerous having your pictures going around without you knowing, but at that time, they didn't know any better.
Also, I got a bit annoyed at the mother here, but that's another issue entirely.
