The way that the picture links to the death of her family is that they needed money along with power to survive and all the businesses they invested in all went wrong. In other words in order for them to survive she needs to keep it a secret that her family is investing into cameras, or else whoever it was that was originally making to family go bankrupt will find the business and make it fail. Soooo she had to talk that way to the man.

But yes, she struck a deal with him to gain an easy access to information, but I still stand by the fact that she could've gone about it more politely.

Yes, in this day and age, it's pretty dangerous having your pictures going around without you knowing, but at that time, they didn't know any better.
Also, I got a bit annoyed at the mother here, but that's another issue entirely.
