I think something I dislike in otome isekai is the fact that sometimes due to transmigration it's not the original victim of abuse, manipulation or whatever bad thing that happens that gets the apology but the "new" transmigrated MC who actually didn't experience any of that trauma.
Makes the apology and redemption feel cheap because the actual victim is long dead and often completely forgotten by the writer. (Though admittedly there are some writers out there who do give closer to the og body's soul in someway or another which I really appreciate. )
But the new MC is the one who make it possible not the actual victim.
But if the abusive asshole is bad enough that he needs outside influence to even realise that he is abusive, than does that abusive asshole even deserve redemption?
And the victim who actually experienced the trauma basically gets nothing, not even a proper apology.
Yep, it seems unfair. But to further consider it... If the abuser lives a different life this time and turns out differently, is he still to blame for what he did in another life under different influences that created different circumstances? It's sort of the nature vs nurture argument. I'm just playing the devil's advocate. :)
Author strikes with the "sad backstory for bad ML to justify a neglectful relationship" trope, it was not very effective.
Okay hear me out though. Like, I mean okay What if the story she was reading was from an unreliable narrator? Now hear me out, what if it was the high priest who was really the narrator? Like think about it, what better way to sabotage the emperor then by sabotaging a relationship that can keep him connected? Like we have to think, the author may not be who we think the author is
It's possible, high priest is definitely sus but he feels more like devil incarnate sus rather then author in disguise sus to me. We still don't know his whole backstory so he could be both, either or none of them ╮(￣▽￣)╭
