Saying Kaede is acting like an omega and whatnot. That's kinda stupid. It's not like being an omega comes with a list of personality traits you have to check. It's just a secondary gender, there's no real reason for omegas to only ever be uke. Judging by their personalities so far, it's really clear that Azusa is the more dominant one in their relationship. The way you keep saying that they switched roles sounds the exact same as commenting that the female and male mc switched roles in a shoujo just because the girl is the aggressive one. I like this development because people seem to just take is as a given for omegas to be acting and treated as if they're woman in the 13th century. Every author has the freedom to do as they please with their work. There is absolutely no rule that states omegas have to be uke. In a lot of omegaverse, the only real difference between omegas and everyone else is the fact they go into heat. Both alphas and betas have both sets of reproductive organs, be they male or female. The point of omegaverse? There really is none, it's just a storyline people use, kind of like vampires or any bloody thing really. You're projecting your own mindset onto a fictive universe. If someone wants to make an omegaverse in which everyone is bloody equal, and discrimination is a thing if the past they can. If they want to make a story in which omegas are kept locked up so they don't end up tainted they can. If they want to make a story in which there is only one alpha in a world overrun by betas and omegas so he is made to breed with different people in an effort to grow the number of alphas, they can. They can do whatever the hell floats their boat because they're the god of their creation.

You're comparing a woman and man switching BEHAVIORAL roles during sex to an alpha and an omega switching SEXUAL roles. Those examples aren't good in comparison... A woman acting aggressive or a man acting effeminate doesn't change their anatomy or urges, a man can be pushed down and called a little bitch by his woman, but if he wants to penetrate her then he'll take that role. The two sexes can switch behavioral roles all they want, but switching sexual roles is a whole other ballpark. A more accurate comparison would've been between a straight man letting his woman fuck him with a strap-on and the omega fucking the alpha. Like others have pointed out, alphas and omegas are literally BUILT to fulfill their sexual roles, an omega in heat will auto-lubricate and an alpha in rut will release semen at an abnormal rate and feel the need to fuck (not be fucked) to the point of blacking out. Oh I'm sorry, I thought omega males have dicks, but now I see that they do not, how preposterous of me to assume they have a piece of anatomy that makes a male an actual male. In all seriousness though, people with dicks often want to use them, omegas are no different. As for them having that self lubricant, that is true, but that does not make them into creatures who only want to use that one way of gaining pleasure, or even at all. For example, if an omega has experienced sexual abuse while not in heat, it could make them discard any and all pleasure they can gain while being a bottom, so long as they are not in heat again, which would make them a seme in all relationships they end up having -assuming they take heat suppression meds, or end up uke while in heat- An omega could also hate the wildly expected role the world forced on them, and be a seme out of their own desire to be one, instead of being what they were thought was right and correct.
As for the original, I know of it, didn't read it, but it came up when I researched the genre back when I first read an omegaverse manga. The thing is, people built stories on the basis of the existence of a secondary gender, not completely based off the original story. They just took the fact that alphabetaomega humans exist and put it in their stories. They loosely base things on the existence of those three categories of humans. Kind of like mythical creatures are often completely changed in order to fit stories, or made to actually look beautiful instead of hideous. Or like fairy tale storylines are used in a lot of books and in the end sleeping beauty turns into an apocalypse novel. This is no different, you're just too used to omegas being uke, and not necessarily for alphas being seme. I say this because there is manga in which an alpha ends up being uke for another alpha, or a beta. But there is no manga in which an omega is seme to anyone other than another omega. That fact made all of you expect an omega to be uke, so long as another omega isn't present, an alpha is not necessarily made into a seme.
PS, there is a lot of omegaverse in which everyone can get pregnant by everyone, it's just a lot easier if an omega and an alpha form a pair.

Taking the basis of his universe, and putting different characters, races and situations while still calling it middle Earth and using his map would be fanfic. Taking his elves and putting them into a completely different universe, while changing their social rules up a bit, and making them, let's say..... green skinned dragon riders would make you a parent to a world. Congratulations, you have a healthy (or not) baby you can do whatever you want with.

First, i'd like to say that omegaverse is not a spectrum, the three genders aren't supposed to have interchangeable sexual roles as they are that way because humanity evolved to ensure more offspring were produced, i'm not sure if you know the criteria required for a species to evolve, but it includes a VERY harsh environment and would take a VERY long time. This means their bodies have built themselves that way to survive an will play out their roles like their lives depend on it. What you're referring to is that the mangaka will sometimes fine tune the story or slightly adjust it, like adding pills with certain effects aside from the default suppressants as those are present in all omegaverse just as alpha/beta/omega must be, but the core story is there. The key components will stay. Now, your argument is a completely ideological argument, "if a male omega has a dick and in most scenarios people with dicks want to use them, then just because they're an omega doesn't mean they want to only have sex that one way". The fact is that omegas in heat, regardless of their dicks, are literally BUILT to fulfill the bottom role and this is explained and played out in literally every omegaverse but this one. When an omega is in heat their primal instincts kick in, it makes them unable to move and makes them lubricate for penetration. It's not a matter of personal choice. Same with an alpha, when an alpha is in rut they literally black out with the urge to stick their dick into whatever they're being attracted to. You're saying "oh, well he has a dick so maybe he wants to use it", but that's just a what if and not based in the reality of omegaverse. Also, If the mangaka was going to switch the sexual roles they needed to provide a reason within the manga as to why their pairing works as their biology would put them both in their respective sexual roles. This is usually done by showing the alpha has a strong omega gene which makes them more effeminate/submissive than a pure alpha or the omega has a strong alpha gene making them more masculine/dominant.
