omaaaaigawwwd!! this was sooooo good!! it felt like i was watching a western film on paper & the art style was a breath of fresh air. as someone who is still learning art fundamentals, dead or alive provides insight on how different art styles can immerse readers into a story’s setting & how great storytelling can bring your characters to life where they almost feel tangible. calahan & johnny are an amazing duo whose dynamic personalities kept you at the edge of your seat. overall, you can tell the mangaka did her research to give us this masterpiece & i commend her for her dedication to produce this beautiful piece of art. i’m gonna get downvoted but it is what is. not much happened throughout the story besides them discussing their secondary gender & discovering their feelings for one another. sometimes healthy stories like these are great within this space, but they can lack dynamic storylines, which causes them to fall flat.
also, i don’t like them being stuck in one location. i would love to see them go to the dom’s house or hang out at the park to show us how much time they’re spending together outside of school. overall, i wasn’t feeling the love within their relationship & i would’ve been okay with them not having sex or becoming lovers.
the way this story fell so flat more me… ugh. it has so much potential, but the writing is all over the place & everything feels rushed. the mangaka should’ve fully fleshed out both characters so we can feel the romance blossom between them instead of utilizing miscommunication as a source of conflict for the plot. overall, i felt nothing. i just skimmed through the parts that made me roll my eyes & thanked god once it was over.
