I think she is kind but not naive. She is just slow to catch on to palace intrigue. She is also too trusting and that is not exactly the same thing as naive as she did pick up on the rival thing and was asking about it.

well, I would say that in general that it is rare that the 'bad guys' have any depth to them.. especially if they are bound to be killed. The ones that do have some depth usually turn out to be good people, who later join the main character's side.. like M21 did for instance..
