I see the grey skin. Usually grey undertones represent zombie or undead characters. I’ve also never seen a person with grey undertones. Even if there was a rare community with this characteristic, I highly doubt the author intended to represent them.
So, I can understand why people are upset. Considering in the make up industry darker skin, like very dark skin, people have difficulty finding shades due to people assuming they have unrealistic undertones.
Tbh, I don’t think the author is racist. At least the design so far isn’t. Trust me I can tell. I wouldn’t even have said more than “he’s grey ” if there wasn’t so much commotion. I’ve seen worse in y’all favorite series and then everyone is suddenly blind.
In general fandoms prioritize the illusion of a perfect unproblematic series over a communities actual concerns.

Thank you. I doubt the author is stupid enough to not know what brown skin is. I’m sure she meant for this character to have this tone, and not a real representation of dark/brown skin toned people.
I don’t think I’m racist if I make fictional characters with red skin (I mainly do it for goddess OCs or gods lmao, it’s fun and I like my imagination coming alive) or blue skin, sometimes green for nature.

Last sentence. So true. They always focus on the less problematic things. I don’t mind the dislike towards the skin but hopefully the hate ain’t strong to the point of dropping the story.
I personally don’t think it’s a big deal, unless we know that the author is trying to represent real dark skin people but sucked at it, that’s another situation.

I’m very sure the author intended for this to be a dark skin person. He is brown with a grey undertone. Either they are not familiar with drawing darker skin or it was a stylistic choice. Maybe they saw it somewhere else and liked it. But someone like Debbie from DEK is a fantasy skin color, that might be POC coded.
Not to say what the author did here cannot be problematic, I just wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s racist. The author could be, but not from this character design. Also this skin color despite the awkward undertone, is darker than what I usually see.
This is not Mihoyo. My expectations for an artist or small studio that’s probably just tried their hands at drawing darker skin and a multi billion dollar company are different. Also, the scale of slight is massively different. I’ve been playing that damn game since 2021. That’s shit pissed me off so bad I deleted it on all platforms. I don’t play Honkai, ZZZ, or anything else. I hope Mihoyo goes bankrupt.
Still, I think people are entitled to their own thoughts. If they feel the grey skin choice was racist and wanna drop they can. Or if they simply didn’t like it, that’s fine, I’ve dropped stories for less.
Gotta respect a FL that stands on business
