I don't know what it is, but something about the characters and the story makes this really rather difficult to read, as in being just a bit too unpleasant. Not that that the characters or story are so different from what you can find elsewhere in yaoi, but perhaps they are just that slight bit more extreme, and lack the other qualities that usually make up for it.
I really loved the story. In some way I don't think it would have had the same impact if Kaori hadn't died. Especially since I suspected as much almost from the start. The only thing I felt lacking about the ending was about Arima's future as a pianist. Did he win the competition and get into that high-school? I have to assume so with the audience's reaction, but considering this was a major focus of the story (besides Kaori) that seems a bit weak way of wrapping that up. It certainly didn't give me any sense of conclusion on that issue.
50 ch.'s in and I'd have to be a dunce not to get that this manga is in no way trying to be at all serious in its portrayal of angels and demons. It is in fact poking fun if anything. Besides, I'm not religious either and don't believe. So then why, despite enjoying the story (and I am vastly!) am I constantly bothered by the fact that these angels and demons just seem so very human? Maybe, because when it comes down to it we have a hard time imagining another sentient being that really is emotionally and intellectually different from us, so that everything, be it aliens to God, eventually ends up with very human-like agendas. Oh well, on with story...Go Save MON!
For some reason when I was through with this chapter I was a lot more focused on those stereotyped senpais getting their comeuppance rather than on the relationship. When all is said and done that isn't really where it should be.
Um, you do realize that they are the antagonists because they are central to the plot right...?
I liked the story, but the end just didn't match the intensity of the plot. Aside from just Rene's disappearing for 6 months with no word is not really explained (sure he might need to leave but he couldn't stay in touch???), there's the abrupt end. The sudden loss of Iro's business (what will he do?) and the fact that Rene said that he had yet to trust Iro (does he now?). So this better not be the end, because I assume with all these loose ends there's a bit more. It sure does need a bit more.
I don't know why, since I have certainly read other mangas that were even more predictable than this was and didn't seem to suffer for it quite so much. Perhaps it is because what I could see coming from the start was perhaps supposed to be a surprise. And it just didn't feel like there was enough to the other parts of the story besides the relationship to make up for that. So I ended up getting bored once we got to the relationship and started skipping.
I felt like there was just a bit too much going on in this last chapter. Not that I didn't want to know, but I felt like it all got a bit rushed and crammed between odds and ends of other bits, and so ended up being a bit confusing. One moment the story would be in one place and time, only the next to jump to somewhere else entirely and then sort of switch back again. Just seemed jumbled.
In the last chapter I thought everything finally made sense. Weird.

The more I read the more I suspect that the powers that be have not only planned and designed the whole situation to benefit both MC's, so that they can rescue each other.
Maybe. But the talk of changing actors makes me more feel they are just playthings for the amusement of the powers that be and there will be pain
